Good phonics book

Very informative

If you are fond of Biff, Chip, and Kipper, this book is highly recommended.

This book comes from Oxford Reading Tree who produce the well-known school/home reading books with Chip, Biff and Kipper. This is a spelling dictionary so there are no definitions in this book. There is one double page at the front explaining how to use it. Words are ordered by their starting sound rather than letter. Eg any word starting with an /s/ sound is grouped together but these words may actually begin s, ce (celebrate), ci (cinema), cy (cycle) or sc (science). This allows children to check a spelling themselves where they might not have otherwise looked in the correct section of an ordinary dictionary to find their word. Each section also has a list of words that have the same sound at the middle or end eg for s -ss (class), -ce (bounce), -se (chase), -st- (castle), although this section is very limited and not as helpful. There is then a section on long vowel sounds and examples of each sound, and finally a double page of common words eg days of the week, months, numbers etc. There are small illustrations throughout the book, including Biff, Chip and Kipper and other characters from their stories. Each sound is a different colour and words are written in different colours to help identify the different sounds/digraphs. A useful precursor to an ordinary dictionary for those just learning to write/spell or those finding it difficult. The style of the book is very much aimed at infant school children.

This is a great phonics book for young children.

This is brilliant I wish I knew about this book sooner my daughter is in year one and does read write Inc at her school and this ties in with it all perfectly she could point out the sounds she already knew and it included some tougher sounds she is currently learning has lots of words for each soon and pictures. Layed out really well. Bright. Love this!!! Learning at home as well as school.

I have a six year old and I’ve been struggling to explain how certain words look different but have the same sound especially during homeschooling. This is a very clever book, full of illustrations of the characters we’ve grown to know through reading school books. It shows the sounds grouped together with numerous spellings beneath them, visually showing the same sounds in different ways. It looked a little overwhelming at first glance but there’s a full explanation at the beginning of the book explaining the ‘alphabetic code’. All the common / tricky words are listed in the back which we are learning. A great resource to assist early readers - would highly recommend!

I was kindly sent this product for free in exchange for an honest review. This phonics spelling dictionary is excellent for children who're beginning to become Independent spellers. My little girl (5 years old) loves to search her 'big girl' dictionary to find the correct spelling for her schoolwork. I would recommend this book to everyone with little ones in their lives, they will find it invaluable to their learning and you will not regret buying it.
