The exact upgrade that I wanted for my laptop!
It worked the moment I slid it into the drive bay! There may be more expensive options, but this one does the job just fine. All you need to swap out the drives is a small screwdriver and possibly a how-to video demo. A little patience is necessary to get the faceplate off without snapping the clips, but once that is done, you are set!Well, the drive and a Blu-ray playing program, and you're set!My laptop has HDMI output (as many newer computers do...) so having a Blu-ray drive seemed to be a natural match.I hope you enjoy your as much as I do, mine.

Coastered my HP recovery disks and refused to read half my programs DVDs
Not sure if it was just a bad drive or what, but it borked my single shot at burning recovery disks for my new laptop, and repeatedly failed to read software I was trying to install. I didn't even attempt to use it to watch blu-rays... Eventually gave up and returned it for refund. The vendor refused to do a direct swap, said I needed to re-order. When I tried to re-order, it was out of stock... figures.

Easy replacement, it works.
Bought this to repair a lalptop with a bad drive. It went in easily and works with no fuss. Haven't heard back from the owner of the laptop since, so I'm assuming it is durable as well.

Complete Success! Plug-n'-Play!
A direct and exact replacement for my factory OEM optical drive whose Blu-ray laser eventually failed.Remove one anchor screw, pull out the old drive, transfer the anchor bracket and face-plate (very carefully) to the new drive, slide the new drive back into the drive bay and tighten the anchor screw. Done. All Plug-n'-Play. All prior programs utilizing the optical drive behaved as if nothing had happened (including Blu-ray player programs).
