RIP After 8 Years
Update (1/25/2019): After 8 years, we’re retiring one of these. It still has life in it, but my preschooler decided it makes a much better robot costume than a hamper. Rest In Peace, my friend! Update (2/29/2016): I'm finally starting to have some small rips, but the hampers are still functional. It's been 5.5 years. Well worth the money. Update (4/28/2014): I've been using two of these pink hampers for three and a half years and no rips or tears so far. I can't believe how long they've lasted! I use these to hold dirty laundry and carry laundry around my house, so I have not tried carrying laundry down the block to a laundry mat. Excluding any random quality control issues, I think it's important to remember that pop-up hampers will never be a strong as plastic or wooden-framed hampers, so I wouldn't expect to carry a huge load long distances in these. That said, I regularly fill these to the brim and carry them around my house. Original Review (2010): This is a great hamper. I've bought two and will definitely buy more. Here are some of the highlights: - Very sturdy (especially relative to other pop-up hampers) - Reinforced handles (a must have for large loads to prevent ripping) - 2 side pockets for laundry accessories (detergent, dryer sheets, etc.) - Folds completely flat (or into a small, flat circle for more compact storage) - Solid fabric bottom - Multiple handles (you can pick it up using the cloth handles or with handles on the actual metal frame) The only negative is that the opening is slightly smaller than some other pop-up hampers. Overall, I'm extremely pleased.

PERFECT for baby/kid room, student or apartment dweller. Great quality!
I bought this to replace the rectangle wire/fabric hamper that I bought from the red bullseye store :) for my son's room. My son is 4 and autistic and tends to be a bit destructive in his room, especially at night before he goes to sleep. He throws things, jumps off things...you name it. Needless to say after a very short time in the ring with my little Nacho Libre, the big metal wires that made up the frame of the other hamper were bent and disfigured beyond repair, not to mention one was poking dangerously out of the fabric! I threw it out right away and bought this. I figured it would be one he could not destroy, could not hurt himself or anything in his room with if he chucked it (not uncommon). Also at this price point, I could afford to replace it if he did manage to destroy it! So far I'm thrilled with it and don't think it will need replacing for a very long time! First, it's idiot proof. I love things that are idiot proof! Second, the materials seem to be of good quality and the construction is sound. I've owned these before and the handles ripped off while lugging a heavy load downstairs to the laundry room. These have not had that problem and I don't anticipate that problem as the whole thing feels very secure. Third, it holds a surprising amount of clothes! I love soft sided laundry baskets just like soft sided suitcases because it means I can stuff more in! Fourth, I love that it has a side pocket for whatever you want. I put socks in it. Fifth, I love that it's mesh so when my son goes fishing in the toilet, spills milk all over himself or I throw wet towels or wash cloths in there, they dry out quickly and don't get all stanky over the course of the week like they would in an enclosed hamper. I know it isn't "cute decor" but seriously, what more could you want out of a dirty clothes hamper?? I bought a second one for my husband and I to use just for our whites. I HIGHLY recommend this for a kids/babies room or for a student, apartment dweller or anyone who has to schlep all their clothes up or down stairs or to a community laundry area! Simple, easy, 5 stars earned! I did NOT receive this item free or at a discount.

Holds a LOT of laundry!
I decided to get a few of these to use as hampers because I moved and I don’t have the space to use empty laundry baskets for my dirty clothes. I got three - a white one for whites, a black one for darks, and a pink one for my gentle wash/delicates. My parents use similar and although theirs have gotten a little tattered over a period of 5 years, they still work just fine and they love them. They pop open easily and stay open, and the mesh sides allow for air flow - good for hubby’s socks that would otherwise turn into a stinky time bomb in a closed hamper. The handles make moving it from our bedroom to the laundry room easy. The best part - these hold waaay more than I thought they would! We recently invested in a set of front loaders and one of these hampers holds just enough laundry to fill the machine comfortably. Not too full where things wash poorly, and not to empty where it’s kind of a waste because I could fit more things. I don’t expect these to last forever. They are made from a thin nylon sewn together and will probably rip if someone was rough with it or put something sharp in it. I pretty much wait until one is full before I run a load, so they get a little heavy, sooner or later a seam will probably give or a handle will break. But I have to carry my laundry down a set of stairs and I’ve fallen carrying plastic baskets down because I can’t look where I’m stepping, so I feel more comfortable with this because I can carry it with one hand. My only complaint is when getting dirty laundry out. If I turn it upside down, most things won’t come out on their own because of the opening, I have to reach in and pull them out. I end up using a regular plastic laundry basket to carry my clean clothes back upstairs because I don’t want to stuff my freshly dried (and thus wrinkle-free) clothes back in.

Good overall, but has a few things that could be better
I've had a mesh, fold-up laundry hamper very similar to this one for a very long time. It still works, but I decided I wanted another one so that I could sort clothes when putting them into the hampers rather than dumping them all out to sort before putting in the wash. Overall, this hamper is good. However, there are a few things that make my previous one better. First, the good. This hamper stands up well on its own. Its springing mechanism pushes it open, so it doesn't seem like it will easily crumble or want to fold up. You can easily fold it flat, and it isn't too difficult to twist it back up into the size it came in. Now, the thing that could be improved. It has a side pocket, but it is flush with the hamper side, so putting anything in it is eventually going to stretch out one of the mesh sides of the pocket (either the outer side or the hamper wall side), it seems. I haven't used it much (just got it) so I cannot confirm this does happen, but since it looks like it would, I don't really plan to use the pocket much, for fear of breaking it. It also has some extra material at the top that narrows the opening into the hamper. I do not really understand what functional purpose this has. It only seems to serve to make it more difficult to toss things in and to dump them out. Finally, the piece I find most unfortunate is that the elastic to hold it in place when it is completely folded up is not attached in any way, making it very easy for it to become a piece that simply gets lost. If you are never planning to fold the hamper back up again, this probably won't matter to you. My other hamper (similar, but of a different brand) has an attached side pocket that hangs off of the top of one side of the hamper. This makes the pocket a bit more usable than the one on this hamper, but also it is designed to let the hamper fold up into the pocket. Meaning you never have to worry about losing a little elastic strap if you need to fold the hamper up for travel or something. Anyway, overall this hamper seems great, but there are those little details that make it only 4-stars for me. Hope this helps out other people.

Great space saver which solves a problem of Laundry transport.
Strong enough to withstand heavy use! I bought two for $4 and change. Great deal, but they self destructed on 2nd use. This is a replacement for the two smaller el Cheapo Hampers. Already test strength and this will go in the back of the bus for weekly laundry. The last one I bought like this was a little cheaper, but it is very similar in construction (learned my lesson, check them out closely), and it is on 7 years. Two of the larger ones are great. I did the fold test. To get it in the little circle, you have to be cagey and watch how it springs apart. Then, if you reverse the twist, it takes around 2 seconds to compress it. We do not .. we must take the bottom corner on one side and push it into the opposite corner. Top corner follows, and then fold the two sides together. Less than 1 second. We have a place between the closet and shower that can't be used for anything wider than 2 inches, so two of these fit nicely in the larger compression size.

Pleasantly surprised
I've heard a lot about how mesh hampers and laundry bags are cheaply made and don't last very long before they start to tear up, but this has worked well for me. I've only had it about a month, but I've used it for about four loads of laundry at college and it's still very intact. I think a lot of the tearing has to do with user error, namely overfilling. What's really nice about this is that it has that big pocket on one side where you can put dryer sheets or detergent or whatever you may need to take with you. I'm not sure why some colors are twice as expensive as others, but I think if they're all as good in quality as my blue one, they're generally worth the money. The one downside for some people may be the size. For me, it fits a week's worth of laundry. I really only wear one outfit per day, sometimes changing my shirt if it gets too sweaty, and one outfit for pajamas. I also wear jeans two or three times before washing them. If you wear heavy clothes or change more often, it may be a problem. I'm a pretty tiny girl (5'1 1/2) so I look kind of ridiculous sometimes carrying this around my dorm when it's full, but I'm glad I have it. I plan to repurchase in the future.

This is THEE hamper to buy! I am a VERY picky person.
So, many of these types of hampers are cheap and I find that I have to be very vigilant in searching through reviews, photos and asking questions to see if they are the quality units I want. That being said, what is a quality unit. Well, the handles have to be well constructed and loop AROUND the frame separately from the the other fabric: they do. The mesh and the stitching have to be sturdy fabric and not cheap: they are good. Those are the two basic things that distinguish the good units of these types of hampers from average poor cheap ones. If you want a sturdy unit that will last you longer, this is it! They are harder to find and, in my experience, about 1 in 20 are of this quality when looking at these types of hampers on the market... maybe less than that even. You might see another review with the same text - both reviews are from me but separate places I had to buy from but both are of same quality!

Very light, holds a full load of laundry.
I thought I had made a mistake when this arrived, as it was so small! However, on opening it and unfolding it, it sprang into a much larger hamper that is the perfect size for trips to the laundromat. The handles offer a choice of short or long, the pockets are good for supplies, and if necessary, the whole thing could be rinsed in the shower and would dry very quickly. It's sturdy enough to last out a school year and folds flat for easy storage. Two or three of these in various colors provide a laundry sorter system. A good buy, I recommend it. Update: After owning this for a few weeks, the fabric tore at the bottom and the wire frame is exposed. I can't recommend it for long-term or hard use. It could probably be found elsewhere and a lot cheaper. The quality is not very good.

Lightweight and reasonably sturdy
UPDSTE: bought this in February and have been using it as a laundry hamper since May. I’ve only collapsed if 3-4 times, mostly it just stays open, but in December I noticed there’s sharp metal sticking through one of the seams where it’s cut through the fabric cover. (Adding photo) So would say this is NOT safe if you have small children around. Bought this for traveling and pleased to find it packs quite small. The only trouble I had was re-folding it; eventually I discovered that it’ll only fold in three when twisted one direction, not the opposite. But easy to re-collapse once I tried twisting the other way.

Great product, does exactly as asked.
Been using it for a fair few years now. Have had to buy one replacement due to my cavalier attitude in overestimating its sturdiness, but by god it does its job.

Perfect
This laundry hamper is perfect. Love it. I purchased the pink one for one of my daughters, and would have purchased a black one as well, but it was over $30- more.....not worth that much money. Come on Amazon....

Does the job! Helps with organization and tidiness.
These do the job I needed them to do! I have 3 kids so when winter hits, my small hallway is chaos with all of the winter gear! We don't have room to have built-in storage so I bought one of these baskets for each kid and that's where all of their dry hats, mitts, gloves, neck warmers gets tossed. They each have their own colour of basket so they can easily grab their own items and put them away. They're fairly sturdy and anticipate them lasing for awhile, although holes in the mesh could be possible if you're rough on them.
