Well it's my first time ever of removing and installing a DVD/CD Rewritable disc drive but I was geared up for it after watching a couple of YouTube vids... I will say its pretty ugly since it is far from 'flush' but personally I really don't care as long as it works. I did have to cannibalize the little plate on the back end of my original drive - in order to secure it by screwing the inserted drive into the back of the laptop. Once I got it all installed then I tested it to make sure 1., it would play a DVD, 2., it would play and record a CD - it did beautifully and quietly! and 3., it would record a DVD that would then play without any problems in a DVD player (I know everybody streams but I'm really low income, almost 70 years old and I just want to watch a movie and record back ups of my originals)! So now I'm up and running and thrilled! I wish the faceplate matched up but I might still try to use the old one even though when trying to remove it from the old drive (I have no clue what I'm doing really) I snapped off a couple of little locking tabs (after all they WERE locked!). But overall I'm VERY happy with this item.

I did buy if from the Amazon used section and the price was good, it does work. But, nowhere does it show it's a toshiba drive. I'm guessing they may have wanted to say fits a Toshiba Laptop.

The description says "Compatible with all brand of laptops with 12.7mm SATA Tray-Loading Optical Drive". I have a Toshiba Satellite 1415-s173, and it DOES NOT FIT. It is a 12.7mm tray loading bay, and the size of the unit is exactly the same, but connector is wrong. It does not fit. I give them five stars because it says "SATA", and the Toshiba apparently does not use a SATA connector. Be warned - not all laptops have a SATA standard connector for their drive.

(I have no idea what "Sheerness" might mean.) But, this is what I needed as a replacement part for a family computer. Arrived on time, plugged right in. Worked exactly as needed.

This Drive Works Great In My Toshiba Satellite C655 Laptop....It Comes With Instructions For Changing Out The Front Bezel....Records DVDs Fast... (But I Haven't Tried Recording Any CDs Yet...)A Question Has Been Asked If The Drive Is "HP" Or "Toshiba".... While I Can't Say For Every One The Seller Ships, I Can Show The Pictures Of The One I Received Shows "Toshiba" On It And Not "HP"....

There was a problem with the lip design of the drive so that part did not sit flush with the side of the laptop, the drive worked. After a few minutes of thought, I took the broken drive and removed the front panel, then replaced that panel with the panel on this drive and it worked!! - Very satisfied with my work so giving it 3 stars, because there is nothing wrong with the drive - just the front panel - by the way, my laptop IS a C655 - so I did not purchase the wrong drive.

I clicked purchase.1 day and 10 minutes later my yaptop cd/dvdr was reading/burning perfectly again.
