Royal Purple API-Licensed Heavy Duty SAE 5W-20 High Performance SN Synthetic Motor Oil is fully synthetic - not made from crude oil like traditional motor oils. Review: Mountain driving mileage increase - My first try. I have read all types of reviews on Royal Purple and this was my first attempt in my Ford V8 4.6 I have ran penzoil full synthetic a great oil, and I drive about 60 miles home in the Colorado mtns. 5k to almost 10k elevation gain of around 5k, and have consistent mileage and I don’t go easy except to slow down for the occasional city Subaru. This was my only change and I’m now getting up to a 10% increase in mile/gal. And quiet engine run 130+k on my engine I can say this was my only change in my car not my driving! So far impressive I am hoping to also clean up the internals of the engine as that is a common feature for Royal Purple, I don’t know for sure on that but mileage increase I can attest to, I believe it is the reason.

**Q: Do I need to use a Royal Purple filter to get the best performance of this oil or will any filter do?**
A: I use fram filters. In the vehicles that I need to be very reliable I use the expensive Walmart Fram Filters. In my around town vehicles I use the cheap fram filters. I have had no problem with any of them. You will enjoy the Royal Purple. Just make sure it shows up on the oil dip stick. My Ford F150 used 9 quarts the 1st time. Not the typical 6 quarts. Now it uses a little over 7 quarts.

**Q: What is the shelf life of this oil**
A: This oil is synthetic. It will not break down or become contaminated like traditional oils may. That said, only buy what you think you'll use in the next 60 months. If you buy this 5 gallon model, consider how many other vehicles can benefit from it. I have two cars, both of them use 5-20. So for me, this is a no-brainer purchase.

**Q: some have dexos some dont, why? mine arrived with no dexos logo**
A: The dexos specification applies to most, but not all, GM vehicles model year 2011 or later.   (I) have a nissan, I do NOT use Dexos.  I've no idea if Dexos is superior in MY vehicle but since it is NOT specified, I don't use it.
