A True Psychological Crime - Well Told
I discovered Ann Rule after reading a book by Gregg Olsen. Gregg Olsen mentioned an author he admired Ann Rule. Ann Rule is an EXCELLENT author. This book is well written, well researched (but not boring), fascinating, scary all at the same time. This book is proof that a conniving female can destroy (or kill) a decent man. And proof that we can't just believe every female coming out of the woodwork in the Me Too era. There are evil, conniving women who can destroy a man with fake vulnerability and the big, strong guy won't even know what's coming. If you like true crime, read any book by Ann Rule. She is the best writer in the genre.

Ann Rule’s final book… and man, was this a doozy.
While I had “Heart Full of Lies” in my ever-growing Kindle queue, I had no idea that this was Ann Rule’s final book… nor of the drama behind the scenes after its publishing. So, we have the story of Liysa Northon, who shot her husband under the pretense of self defense. And yet, everything presented in this book shows evidence to the contrary. Especially as her own history shows a habit of love ‘em and leave ‘em when she doesn’t get what she wants. (I was even tempted to purchase the book she and “Nick” had coauthored - which is available on Amazon! - but then I realized that the royalties would go to her.)What gets me is that Liysa manipulated so many people in her orbit that she has supporters despite evidence to the contrary. She even charmed a contributor to one of her local papers into publishing a piece attacking Ann Rule’s work on this story… while not disclosing that he was romantically involved with the former Mrs. Northon (whoops). And now that she’s out, she’s working with domestic violence survivors - which surprised me as I thought the organizations working with her would do a much better vetting process.I hope that Liysa’s current husband knows what he’s in for… and that at least her plans for “Chrysalis” have gone up in smoke.

Another haunting story by Ms. Rule!
Once again, Ann Rule has drawn me into yet another novel with her compelling story telling. She paints a vivid picture of greed, manipulation, narcissism, sociopathic behavior that reaches beyond anything I've read before. Rule is fair in her findings, and she backs everything up with amazing amounts of detailed research. She brings home the fact that Chris was a loving, caring, highly thought of individual that although may at times have argued with his wife, things never went into the total manifestation his wife claimed they did. He was caught within the web of his wife, Liysa's many, many deceits, yet still managed to find hope that they could make their relationship work. Liysa is clearly a very mentally disturbed person, (she spent years laying plans) to establish false claims of abuse to garner sympathy, and only wanted her "defenders" of abused women's rights to back off when she thought it would ruin her chances for an acquittal. She preyed upon the sympathies of formerly abused women and tried to ruin a good man's reputation, when that didn't work, she simply killed him and tried to fall back on the "abuse" card to set herself free. It sickens me that she'll be free soon to reek havoc upon her sons lives. I found no discrepancies in this book, the evidence, court documents and witnesses (for both sides) speak for themselves and are hauntingly honest. Those that stand by Lisya's side are her enablers, and refuse to see the evil before them. Initially I went into reading this book thinking, huh, Ms. Rule doesn't care too much for Liysa, but after reading various news articles (of my own research) I found that many who came across her, as well as myself, felt the same way as Ms. Rule. Definitely worth the read, she draws you into the story enough to make you want to investigate various news articles on your own! Thank you Ms. Rule for yet another fascinating read!

Deceit and Manipulation
I found this book interesting as I trained and worked as a counselor. I have seen personality disorders and the destruction caused within a family. There is a good amount of background about the individuals.

One of Her Best.
I must admit to a certain bias per Ann Rule. I'm a true crime fan and it amazes me what a person is willing to do, as in the cases that Rule describes, to achieve their objective. I have read at least half a dozen of her books and I would rate this one, as one of the better. To me that's a high standard because Ann Rule has a clear, reporter's eye, in telling a good (true) story. What can one say about an author that over and over again, is able to write, consistent "page turners"? Her books are the kind where one "burns the midnight oil" to find out what happens next.

Not Sure Whose Side to Believe..
I have been a huge fan of Ann Rule since the first book I read of hers, "Everything She Ever Wanted" in 1999. I have read almost every single one of her books since then, with the True Crime files being my favorites. That being said, this is one of my least favorite A.R. novels. We know, beyond a doubt, that Lisya murdered her husband. But why? Was she a battered woman who feared for the lives of herself and her children? Were those just tales she told everyone for two years to set up the perfect defense? Chris was viewed as laid-back man who endured a barely tolerable marriage out of love for his son. He feared if he divorced Lisya, he would never see his son again.Lisya has served her time and is back among the public now, and she even has a new husband (there are interesting articles and court documents that can be found online).I was conflicted about who was telling the truth. We will never know Chris's side of the story...

Good Story
This is a well researched and largely well told true crime story. My only criticism would be is that every research detail and interview need not be included in the book; this leads to annoying repetition and details retold many times. I skipped a bunch of pages that dwelled on the same stuff. That said, it’s a good enjoyable story and I’m glad that I read it….

Good true crime story
I love reading true crime. One review said it was too wordy. But I like all the details of everyone involved. I’m half way through the book, and I would recommend.

Superspannend und erschütternd!
Wie immer schafft Ann Rule, eine unheimliche und melancholische Stimmung zu erzeugen. Auch diese true-crime Geschichte ist spannend bis zur letzten Seite.

An excellent read - recommended.
Ann Rule must be congratulated on having the guts to write about real people who commit murders. They could, after all, sue her...or worse, but she takes her chances and tells stories that must be told. Good for Ann!This book is quite chilling because it shows that people we think are nice and normal can have different sides and Lisya Northon shows one side to some people and another side of herself to others. Liysa herself is an expert storyteller and for that reason has convinced people that she is a battered wife and that she had to kill her husband in order to save herself and her kids. I am still not sure how she managed to convince her friends that she shot her husband in 'self defence' when, at the time, he was lying comatose, fully zipped up inside a sleeping bag.Liysa Northon gives genuine battered women a bad name. She is as bad as those women that cry rape.Liysa is a manipulator of people - especially men, and I would say to any man that gets involved with her in the future that he should be extremely wary, but then men don't always think with their heads, do they?
