Does it require wifi?

Wifi is required in the house where you connect the "home base" to via ethernet cable (provided), but you don't have to be using your wifi on your phone to view the feed. If your wifi is turned off on your phone, you'll get an alert that Eufy is utilizing your phone provider's data plan.

Will this send a text message when it detects motion? Will it auto record for a time?

When it detects motion, the system can be set to send a notification to the phone and record a video automatically. It depends on the settings in the app.

Can the spotlight be triggered by motion, other than just manually toggling on/off?

The spotlight is triggered by motion when you set it up to do so. I have it on my cameras and they do come on. You have to go into the settings and set it. I bought my cameras in May of 2020

Can you use 2 complete kits together?

Yes. 1) you can add up to 16 camera to one homebase and 2) if you want to use 2 home bases like at 2 different locations or houses you can do that too and see both both home bases and all cameras in the mobile app.
