These will break down over time - thats just the nature of the beast! We have a spa that we use chlorine to sanitize, this stays in the water with chlorine in it constantly so it will eventually give out - It is what it is, any one you use is eventually going to break down but this is the best one. It lasts much longer before breaking down than several others ive used before.

I put 1" tabs in the one in my fountain and after a few months got a second one for my spa.I used to put granulated chlorine in my spa but noticed with this floater, I use less chlorine and the tabs last longer.Good purchase.

This chlorine floater is okay- we got one summer season out of it - as the lid connection deteriorated and really doesnt stay on on its' own now- There were better quality ones a few years ago - but less options now. I would say don't expect to get more than a year's use out of it. If you can find a One inch at the local big box store - the plastic will probably be thicker on those and they will last longer.
