This is really a great watch for the price
This is really a great watch for the price! It's made with some great materials as well. The case is made from 316L stainless steel and features some very fine brushing as well as polishing in certain areas. The crown is also engraved with the companies logo which is a nice touch. The back features a screw down case back with a sunburst effect to it. The dial of the watch is black and has Arabic numerals for the 3rd and 9th hour and batons for the rest. The hour markings are applied and have a 3D effect to them which looks good as the light hits them. On the inner portion of the dial you can see white 24 hour markings for military time, and a date window at the bottom. The dial is covered with a sapphire crystal with three layers of anti-reflective coating applied. Sapphire is the hardest material you can use for the crystal so you won't have to worry about getting scratches on it. The movement is a Swiss quartz movement. However, they don't tell you exactly what type of quartz movement it is. The bezel is unidirectional which rotates counterclockwise. The markings on the bezel allow you to use it to show elapsed time. The strap is made of genuine rubber which is very comfortable and has grooves underneath it so heat and sweat can easily escape. It's highly adjustable so you can find a great fit. Because it's rubber it also grips your wrist well, withstands the elements very well, and doesn't show scratches. The depth rating is 100m/330ft of water resistance. The luminescence on this watch is only decent. The only things that glow in the dark are the hour and minute hands, and the lume bead at the top of the bezel applied in the triangle.

One Magnificent Watch! Artwork for the wrist!!
This is one Stunning and very well built timepiece! I own Rolex, Hamilton Jazzmaster Chrono automatic, Bulova Marine Star, etc., and this has become my absolute favorite..at least for the last 2 month's. I just ordered an Orient 'Ray ll' from Amazon a minute ago. But, that's another review. The dial on this Victorinox is absolutely beautiful. I particularly like the two tiered design. The military numbers in the center ring compliment the outer stick markers which are offset by just the 3 and the 9. All in all, a very well thought out dial design which is easy to read at a glance and brings a satisfied smile every time I look at it. I'm getting a bit older so the date window at the 6 position is a bit small for me to read without my 'cheeter's' but love the fact that it is framed in gold to match the Swiss Army logo at the 12 position. As well as the hour/minute hands. Very tastefully done!I originally thought the rotating bezel was black until I checked it on a sunny day. Another 'whowa, this is a damn good looking watch' moment. It is a few shades darker then the dial and again, the contrast is extremely attractive and looks like a much more expensive timepiece. As previously mentioned it has some heft to it and feels like a high quality watch but doesn't feel too big and I easily became used to it within 20 minutes of wear. There is nothing 'chinsy' about it. No rattles of the bracelet, etc. What impressed me the most is that, for a (Swiss) quartz movement, the second hand hit's every single second marker on the dial..on the nose. This may not be a big deal to most but, for me, just another sign of very good quality and quality control. The bezel turns with a smooth yet firm click all the way around and the markers line up perfectly. Also, the minute markers on the bezel are set into that beautiful dark green ceramic, providing a silky smooth feel as you run your finger over it, all surrounded by gold PVD on the outer bezel as well as the crown. Yet another feature that is quite pleasing to the eye.I have banged it here and there but have not seen a mark on the crystal or the Stainless Steel case. I do see two extremely small dings on the gold PVD center of the bracelet. One reviewer mentioned that "it doesn't even look like gold" and, he's right. It does have more of a gold/copper/brass thing going on but I actually prefer this look as it set's it apart from other gold plated bracelets/watches out there. What I like the most about this watch is that it is not pretending to be something else. Sure, it resembles higher end watches but it clearly set's itself apart from the many clones available. This has it's own identity and I wouldn't be surprised to see someone clone this exact design. So, if you haven't already guessed..I love this watch and cannot imagine anyone looking down at their wrist on a sunny day and saying, 'argh, what a mistake'! As a matter of fact, the watch has gone UP in price since I purchased it in April and the Chronograph in the same color/design has Skyrocketed in price. Buy it, you won't regret it...but, it you do, Amazon will promptly refund your $. But, I doubt you'll regret it!As a footnote. After sizing the band (very easy) I must have put the pin in backwards and while riding my motorcycle on the highway, noticed what I thought was a piece of string sticking out of the band. Well, it was the pin and I almost lost it doing 70mph!! So, make sure you put the pin in properly when sizing. I have ridden many times since and nothing has vibrated out of place. Clearly my fault.

Buyer beware.
The watch was defective. The second hand ticked half way between the indicies. it also came with no warranty stamp. We will see what the replacement brings.

02/15/2020: A Very Nice Watch!
I could go on and on about this watch so I'll try to keep this short.Scratching on the Watch Face: There isn't any! My coat zipper brushes against it all the time and there isn't a single mark. Fantastic sapphire!Weight of the Watch: It is heavy enough to feel like a really well made product, but not annoying in any way.Functionality: I was looking for something that could give me the time and look great doing it. This watch definitely succeeds in that department. It even tells me the date as a little bonus!Readability: Perfect in the day, impossible at night. The glowing substance on the watch hands doesn't last very long at all. Honestly, it's not a really a problem for me because I am normally driving when it's night time anyway.Exclusivity: It's obviously no Rolex, but it's not imitating anything either. It's its' own thing. It has a very subtle level of class. It isn't the first thing that people notice about you. You know you have something very nice on your wrist and that's all that matters!Overall Thoughts: I love my Victorinox Maverick! I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a watch that will be classy for every day wear and that will last a very long time.

Good watch with a couple of minor flaws.
Looks great! Feels great on the wrist. But, who thought putting a leather band on a water resistant watch was a good idea???? It's a nice leather band, but useless, unless you will take the watch off when showering. A rubber band would be much more useful, but that's being picky. Also, the pins are hard to extract, again, a minor issue. Otherwise, I am happy with the watch.

Vale!

You get what you pay for, and then some.
I decided to write this review as I recently purchased this off Amazon, preowned, but in near mint condition. Some of the other reviewers were complaining about its price, and the value of the watch compared to others at the same price point. Usually, one of the most popular divers at around the $200-400 price point is the Orient Mako or Ray line, or the Mako XL or USA. I have owned a number of orients, and can attest to their incredible value, as they offer a quality and reliable automatic diver at a reasonable price point. The only reason I bring up Orients line of divers, is as this is generally the comparison used when reviewers critique the Victorinox Maverick from what I have read. Ultimately, I have to largely disagree with some reviewers stating that $300+ for this watch is unreasonable, even compared to the Ray II and Mako XL, which I own. So, what is my point? I think the Maverick is certainly worth $300, as is the Orient, but both in different ways, and both offer watches of incredible value in different ways. So here is my reasoning for this assertion:1) Finishing: the finishing on the Maverick is nearly unparrelled at this price point. Sure you can find some exceptions, but for the most part, the clean brushed finishing on the side and lugs of the case, is immaculate for the price, and really exudes the quality finishing of a much pricier watch. Compared to orient, the finishing is definitely a step above. Not to say that the orient isn't well constructed or finished, but the difference is certainly noticeable, and the contrast between the brushed and polished lugs catch the light beautifully on the Maverick.2) Bezel: in my experience, the bezel on the Mako XL has good action, easy to rotate, lines up and has little back play. However the Maverick does the same, lines up precisely with the indices, and the bezel has a gorgeous metallic and glass/plastic/some sort of composite material, which really makes it appear glossy and shiny. The numbers on the bezel really catch the light with the maverick, and the coin edge bezel is well polished. Definitely would have to go with the Maverick here for the bezel.3) Dial: the dial on the Maverick is beautiful. It has different finishings, it isn't one dimensional, has different layers/levels that pop up and add to the number of facets that catch the light and really make this watch stand out. The applied Arabic indices at 3&9 combined with the stick markers really hit the light well, and also are well polished. The dial is executed extremely well, the quality control is pristine under a loupe. For the Orient line up of divers, Atleast the Mako Xl and Ray II, both have beautiful blue sunburst dials, however lack some of the complexity and dimensions of the maverick. This could be a positive or negative. Meanwhile the finishing on the mavericks dial is also of a higher noticeable quality, as the finishing of the indices are much nicer. However I do prefer the beautiful shaped hands on the Mako Xl.4) Crystal/Visibility: the Maverick has a sapphire crystal, triple coated with anti reflective coating. The Mako and Ray II have mineral crystals. The Maverick will definitely stand stronger over time to wear and tear on the crystal, while orients can get scuffed, and is also a fingerprint magnet. The visibility.. Slightly better on the maverick, perhaps due to the AR coating, however I have rarely had visibility issues on the Mako Xl or other orients for that matter.5) Brand: ultimately, you are paying for the brand as well, even if its the slightest. Victorinox is more universally recognized compared to orient, despite both being well respected in the watch community. If you care about Swiss heritage, or if you care about the fact the watch is 'Swiss Made', then this may be for you.The maverick certainly upon first glance appears to be of a higher quality fit and finish. It catches the light better, it has a comfortable 43mm case with curved lugs that hug my 7.5 inch wrist perfectly. The orient mako Xl is slightly larger, at 44mm, which makes it a better comparison to the maverick over the ray II, however the Mako Xl also is comfortable, just not as much as the Maverick. Those points may have seemed a bit critical of the Orient Diver lineup, however Orient offers some bang for the buck that the Maverick doesn't:1) Movement: with orients lineup, you get an automatic Japanese movement, made in house by orient. Depending on which one you choose, either the original Mako/ray/XL or the Ray II/Mako II, the older ones are not hacking or hand winding, however newer models have both. Either way, Orient offers an automatic movement compared to the relatively basic Swiss Quartz in this Maverick.2) Water Resistance: the orient line up has 200m water resistance for the most part, while the maverick offers only 100m. Note that the maverick crown is push pull, and orient offers a screw down crown. A screw down crown would have been a nice addition to the Maverick. However, if you are like me, and will only be using your divers as casual wear and possibly some swimming, maybe scuba diving max, then the water resistance on both will be sufficient.3) bracelet: the maverick came with a genuine rubber strap, moulded into a oyster style bracelet. The rubber appears to be of a good and reliable quality. The difference is, the orients come with a solid linked bracelet (but hollow end links) which may be more desirable. To get the Stainless Steel bracelet on the Maverick, you'll have to fork over a bit more dough. Although the bracelet looked to be well finished, with solid end links, and a well constructed deployant clasp. However, I wish that the maverick was offered with the Stainless Steel bracelet at a lower price point, maybe a bit lower relative to the rubber strapped models.Summary:It ultimately depends on what you want in your diver. If you are a stickler for mechanical watches, get the orient. It offers great bang for buck, looks great, is durable, has a screw down crown and dependable water resistance. However, in terms of the Maverick, I believe it offers incredible value for money, even above $300. This is evident by the QC, and the fit and finish of the case and dial. The finishing is a step above nearly all watches I have purchased sub-$500. The finishing is immaculate, and appears to line up better with the finishing on some pricier Swiss options. Based on the work that went into the dial and bezel as well, clearly makes it stand out as a high quality watch despite lacking a mechanical movement. The Watch also looks stunning when outdoors, or in brightly lit situations. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this again.

Very nice, DON'T BUY ON AMAZON
The watch quality is outstanding on this timepiece. The watch face is beautiful and 2 dimensional (layered) It's not heavy due to the rubber strap witch is a bonus for everyday wear and still very stylish. It keeps perfect time and with very little maintenance It comes with a very nice box. BUT and it's a big one, when I received it was missing the manual and warranty card and the box was damaged. It was a return in my opinion and they just put it back on the shelf and resold it. So if I were you I'd buy this watch somewhere else, hope this was helpful.

Love my watch!
Great all around watch! Waterproof, sapphire crystal, Swiss made - what’s not to love!?! The only thing I didn’t love was the strap, so I swapped it out for a nato strap- and now couldn’t be happier!

Caveat Emptor
I bought this as a special present for my husbands 70th birthday. It arrived in good time and was well packed, but when he unwrapped it the winder fell out and it was obviously broken. The sellers were in America, which I had not realised, and I was unable to phone them because of the time change - 6 hrs difference. After a lot of research on the Internet I located the UK Service Centre in Leicester, and telephoned them. They agreed that I could send it to them under guarantee and they would repair the watch. Then they Emailed me to say that Amazon was not a recognised supplier of Victorinox watches, therefore the guarantee was invalid.I have now had to pay £40 to have this brand new watch repaired, and they will check it is a genuine Victorinox and validate the guarantee. This will take 10 working days, as they are busy! I am not happy, neither is my husband who thought he had a lovely birthday present, and then he did not.
