I've replaced this handle before as the tab that actually engages opening mechanism is plastic and that is what breaks. Wish that part was made of metal.

It is a perfect clone of the original, made in Taiwan, comes complete with the little plastic clips that hold in the actuating rods, and fits "like it was made for it" - which of course it was.I can't speak to the sturdiness but the original lasted 29 years and only broke when corrosion caused the lock pins to hang up. The plastic actuating lever does not inspire confidence but it is identical to the original so no complaints.

I have been a mechanic and in the field for a long time now, way, way pre-Amazon, sought and bought a lot of car parts over the years. So I was even more knocked out when I found this part in an instant, at half the cost of anyone else and delivered in under a week, an exact replacement. Try a special order anywhere else with that kind of service. I did find one that seemed to be chrome instead of black plastic, had not budgetary constraints been in effect, I might have tried it.I guess I treated my original kindly, it gave me 200K+ miles. I was surprised when it popped one day (before anticipated heavy use, of course) but I was really surprised to find this heavily used item had a plastic actuator arm. How much could they have saved? Well, whatever, I guess. Had the new one installed in less than ten minutes.Hard to believe Amazon carries what would could be considered a niche product . But lately I continue to be amazed and my search for anything will always begin here. Got an obscure light switch to replace? Toothpaste no one else carries?Anyway, I recently began looking more closely at the gates of Toyota truck, it would appear many of them use the same handle. Got a 'Yota? Order two!

The only thing I did not like about it, was the rubber gasket was not tight enough for a good seal.It is rather loose, and water can get down in the tailgate. But it does work.I unhooked the spring on the handle, so there is much less pressure on the plastic openinglatch. Hopefully this will allow the plastic opening latch to have more longevity in its use.

Great product for the price. Only wish connecting screws were provided. Not everyone has these existing on their 30 yr old vehicle..

The handle works great and was easy to replace. However, the plastic clamps that hold the metal rods that get pulled to open the gate, are more like rubber and aren’t sturdy at all. They wouldn’t hold. I had to use the clamps from my old tailgate that are plastic.

This part fit my pickup just as described

Fit my 1992 Toyota PU 2.4L perfectly... it even came with the plastic clips already installed to insert the rods into and the two bolts lined up perfectly. Took more time to remove the inside tailgate plate cover (10 screws) than to install the handle itself. All I needed was a Phillips head screwdriver and a 10 mm wrench to loosen the two bolts holding in the handle, since after 26 years the bolts were a little tight to get out with the screwdriver. Good as original.
