The original Crafters Hot Knife came to market in 2001 and was released to meet the needs of the light duty industrial market plus hobby & craft markets including theater props and sets. Since its premier, the Crafter's Hot Knife has been sold all over the world. "The Crafter's Hot Knife brings a new dimension to the modeler's table for carving many types of foam. The knife makes plunge cuts into blocks and shapes possible. Bow cutters cannot make the plunge cuts. The maneuverability of the knife is superior to anything else that I have found on the market," says Miles Hale, Master Model Railroader, Vice President Association of Professional Model Makers. The most distinguishing difference of The Crafters Hot Knife is the rigid and solid, 6" Stainless Steel blade. It slices quickly and cleanly through high-density foam without bending, warping or breaking like common wire cutters. A retro, easy grip, wooden handle beautifully accents the Stainless Steel blade. Temperature is controlled by the user with a "dead man's switch" that delivers the power up to 750 degrees fahrenheit temperatures. This light/medium duty tool will shut down to cool instead of burning out after 5-10 minutes of continual use. The user can extend the operating time once familiar with the power switch operations.

Works but button very hard to hold down
Works but the little red button you have to press down is too small and hard to press. Why would a company put a tiny little button that you have to mash so hard to keep this thing turned on. Used it once and now it collects duct. What a shame because it works great but the little button is a joke. I tried wrapping a wire and holding the button down that way but it really doesn't work very well. Do not buy this!!!!!!. And bu the way i am a normal guy that is from the construction industry.

Sort of works
As mentioned in some other reviews, the product sort of works. It takes 3 or so minutes to warm up / works for maybe 5 minutes, then goes into "over-heat" / takes 3-5 minutes to cool down, then repeat process all over again. I would not recommend if you need this and you don't have time for this process.

Time Saver!
This little tool is a must have for anyone crafting with large pieces of foam. It saves time, energy, and frustration. The only con is that it is not super easy to clean because the melted foam sort of sticks to it after a few minutes. If you're ok with that then there's no problem at all. However, if you're going to be disappointed in using a product once and never having it clean up to look like new, you may want to research other items. For me, it's not an issue. I don't care what the product looks like, just that it works! And this product does what it says.

Great tool
I finally bit the bullet and spent the money on this product. It is amazing. It transformed our VBS decorations in a flash. Two downfalls...1 the smell of burning foam is overwhelming, even in a well ventilated space, and 2 it overheats fairly quickly and you have to let it cool down before moving on.I used it heavily so I'm sure this was a normal side effect. I would buy it again in a heart beat!

It's all about the tools!
If you do any amount of crafting or in my case working on costumes and set props, this tool is a necessary item in your arsenal! We tried other types of tools for cutting and shaping foam and this is the only one that works. The wire type are super hard to control and you'll get very frustrated! The price is right and it came very quickly!

Shuts down way too often
When it cuts, it cuts nice, but it had to cool down way too often, like after every 8-10 feet cut. It's OK, I'm glad I have it, just need to leave more time for the cutting.

Very limited time use
This item is useless. The safety thermostat in set so low that you can only use it for about 30 seconds and then it has to cool down for over 5 minutes. I was very disappointed.
