Traditional Horror from a Contemporary Viewpoint
Leeches is a horror movie of superleeches attacking and largely wiping out the Lakecrest College mens swim team.Swimmer Stevo Robbins (played by Matt Twining of The Frightening) pushes steroids onto many other team members, partly to help the team win its competitions. Jason (played by Josh Henderson), Tony (played by Stephen Swan), Hank (played by Mark I. Miller), and Fish (played by Greg Lyczkowski) have all received drugs from Stevo. One day the team swims and parties at a lake. Stevo and Jason run back to the showers while carrying rather large leeches on their backs. The guys pluck off the steroid-engorged leeches and toss them onto the shower floor. Later, Tony kicks these leeches down a drainpipe, where they grow bigger and meaner. The first leech attack is on an incapacitated showerer, Doug (played by Trevor Harris), who gets a mouthful. Doug goes home, vomits up a huge leech (the best effect of the movie), and dies. The leech goes on to the next victim, Brian (played by Mike Cole). The superleeches multiply and are soon all over the campus. In general, the women are the consciences of the group. Girlfriends Sarah (played by Alexandra Westmore), Sabrina (played by Charity Rahmer), Casey (played by Stacey Nelson), and Angela (played by Maya Parish) resist the take-drugs-to-win positions of the men. Dr. Alice Manning (played by Julie Briggs) finds steroids in the blood of a dead swimmer and wants to test the whole team, but she doesnt live long enough. Sarah is especially brave about touching leeches and their slime. The other counterpoint is science student/swimmer Steve (played by Michael Lutz) and his study-buddy (played by Tyler Sedustine). They hit the books while the others party.Of the fifteen credited characters appearing onscreen, twelve die over the course of this 85 minute movie. Thats once every seven minutes, which suggests there is a lot of action but not a lot of character development. The early kills are people we hardly know. The later the kill, the more we tend to know and not respect the character. There is a surprise at the end.At a higher level, the movie portrays the bad side effects of tinkering with our bodies and of putting the wrong chemicals out into nature. Booze and steroids figure in the ends of most. Steroids make the leeches larger and more aggressive. Being a studious scholar-athlete is not a complete answer either, as will be made clear. At a lower level, the movie displays male skin galore in swimming, bondage, and sleeping situations. The girlfriends go no further than brief bikini shots at the lake. All the men, other than the study-buddy and Coach Foster (played by Tony Carroccio) have lots of time in their swim suits. There is no [alternative]angle; all relationships are straight.Producer/Director David DeCoteau has created a rather good movie, much improved over Brotherhood III. The camerawork, lighting, and pacing are excellent. The leeches are acceptable, although some unnaturalness of motion is apparent. The acting is average overall, although I liked Matt Twinings Stevo, Julie Briggss Doctor Alice Manning, and Alexandra Westmores Sarah a bit more than the rest. The directors commentary is very good, filled with interesting points. There are various plot holes, but these come with the genre. There are very few naturalistic horror films with lots of handsome, male college boy skin. This is as strong an entry as there is for that niche. 3.5 stars, call it 4 for daring.

Cheesy so entertaining, but the quality is lacking hence $2.99 price
Considering I think this is the first of the prequel's, let's call them that to the 1313 films. Anyways, they try to say this is meant for adolescent girls/4 fans. Well, as a whore fan and someone who did not realize it was a David Deccoteou sorry if I'm butchering the spelling of his name. Anyways, I do actually like his movies especially the puppetmaster and a lot of his full moon films. That being said , I gave it three stars because it did happen to have potential, though it was extremely homoerotic; reminded me of something I would see on the weekend on this #SyfyChannel. If things were edited differently, or they just completely made it all BS gay oriented mumbo-jumbo a plot more than a hint. There might be more humor along with the horror. Because the cover says it all FYI you can get this a lot cheaper if you buy the four pack on DVD for five dollars or less. Unless you just want to pay $2.99 for the convenience, but the quality is lacking hence three starts.

THEN ITS JUST A FUN, SILLY
OH THOSE LEECHES, THINK ONE IS BITING ME NOW AS I WRITE THIS REVIEW, OUCH!!! OK ITS NOT AWARD WINNING BY ALL MEANS, BUT IF YOU DON'T GO INTO IT SERIOUS, THEN ITS JUST A FUN, SILLY, HOUR AND 20 MINUTE MOVIE. THE GIRLS IN IT ARE OK, NONE OF THEM REALLY STAND OUT TO ME, LIKE SHE'S A MODEL, GUY ACTORS ARE ACTUALLY MORE INTERESTING TO WATCH!! MODEL TYPES, BUT YES CAN'T REALLY ACT AND LOOK PRETTY DUMB, SEEN WORSE THOUGH, BUT I ENJOY B CREATURE FEATURES, SO TO SUM UP CAUSE HAS SIMPLE PLOT STORY LEECHES!!!! SO IF YOU LIKE MODEL TYPE DUDES AND SEXY LEECHES THEN GIVE IT A VIEW ON A BORING NIGHT YOUR HAVING AT HOME!!!!!!! SPYING OUT!!!!!!!!!!1

Horror Junk Food
I like campy horror movies, but it gets tiresome only seeing women overly sexualized. Director David DeCoteau provides a vacation from that. The used disc itself was in very good condition, with only a couple minor scratches. I would definitely recommend this to interested parties. Edit: After a couple more viewings, I know this movie isn't worth 5 stars. 2 stars for movie, 1 star for passing the Bechdal Test, and 1 star for the hot guys. I wouldn't want to exist on a film diet of this, but it's fun for what it is.

GOOD AND NOT FORGOTTEN
This movie was a little corny, but entertaining and never boring. The actor who played the coach did not do a good job of acting. I think the word "OVERKILL" best describes his performance. The ending was a total surprise. I never thought it was conceivable.I would not call this a gay movie though. The fact that the director is gay, seems to be emphasized in all of his movies. The leeches were a bit 70s-ish. The actors did not do their best work when the leeches were sucking them dry. The movie is a fresh departure from the normal slasher flick. Not the best, but just a good movie.

I thought it would be better.
Im not gonna say it wasent good because I did enjoy it, but it is not how I thought it would be.It was kinda corny but i thought that the storyline was very creative.I liked the sex appeal that the actors brought to the film and I liked each of there styles of clothing that they wore when they were not in the pool or in there swimsuits. Especally the nerdy biology dude I loved when he was in all black it gave him sort of a gothic look.

Sure, It's a Really Stupid Movie
My take on this flick is that it's intended as a parody of some of the sexploitation movies of the 1970s, except that it's primarily focused more on young adult males instead of chicks. Since the director is said to be a gay male, this isn't much of a surprise.I doubt the director's intention was ever to consider it as a serious horror movie, but just to poke fun at some of the bad horror flicks from the 1970s, which used attractive young women as victims instead of males.I think many viewers will find this flick amusing, so long as they have a good sense of humor, instead of expecting to see a serious horror movie.

So bad it's good. I recommend this to anyone that likes to see men with limited clothing in horror films.
