Great trailer locks. Keys only fit lock it comes with, not universal

The very act of purchasing a lock means you want to protect that item you are locking; don't scrimp and save a few dollars and buy an off-name brand, buy this Master Lock. Lost my keys to my other hitch lock and had to cut it off with bolt cutters; this Master Lock is to replace it. I have trusted Master Lock brand for 50 years, which influenced my decision to purchase this item. Solid, seemingly good quality, I'm sure it will work fine for years.

I give this Product 5 Stars because I have had this product on many different trailers and they last forever. Great Product. But, this time I receive my order and open the bag and there is only a set of Keys? The lock was obviously cut off the product packaging because there were white zip ties that were cut. Amazon doesn't have an Option that the Item I ordered is Missing? First time this ever happened to me. Now I have a date to return the so called Defective Item that I never received or I have to pay again. I am not to happy to have to drive accross town to a UPS Drop Off site and drop off a set of keys? Well........What can you do. Anyway. This is a weird review I know. But product is superior if ya get it. LoL. 8o)

This Master Lock 605DAT feels like it ate a safety manual for breakfast. Solid brass body, stout shackle (15/16" length x 7/16" inner width), and a 2" body width that says serious security without drama. Smooth key action, weather-resistant, and heavy enough to inspire confidence. After a few washboard road adventures, the first one came loose and was lost mid-trip. Design flaw or human error? Who knows. I haven’t had to replace the second one yet, so it might just be me. Still a reliable, no-nonsense lock for everyday use.

This "lock" has several severe design flaws that render it a nearly comical target for would-be thieves. Several online sources are trying to make the company and consumers aware of the vulnerabilities in the design, but so far, Master Lock has proudly...ignored the issues for years. Also some people seem to have problems with their lock sticking when used outside for long periods of time. Feeling the operation in hand, the shackle bolt is super roughly machines and poorly designed, requiring a lot of pressure from the user to shut it. Also, if the ejection spring is too weak to overcome binding (because of rust or corrosion), the lock may become extremely difficult to remove from an attachment point. There's no way to manually pull out the shackle, as with most sliding-bolt locks. I would not trust it for long term use outside, as there's no real way to force the shackle open if it begins to stick. Can't exactly pull it harder. So why did I buy this lock? I thought it would be a fun novelty lock! In reality, it's a little less fun than McNally makes it appear. The tolerances are surprisingly bad (so it doesn't operate that smoothly), and mine arrived somewhat scraped up (it would probably end up like that in a year though). For the curious, it has 4 pins with 3-4 spool pins probably. This lock, or others like it in the series, is susceptible to the comb pick. Shimming is probably not going to be a possible weakness given the close fitment of hasp loops or locking apparatuses during use. So far, the "can be opened with another Master Lock" trick isn't working, probably because the tolerances are so bad in the machining. Too much friction.

I lost the setpin for the last one I had, this lock works and works. Never jammed, never rusted, never failed. My fault I lost the pin in the first place. New one has a stop on the pin so it stays attached to the main body. With this mod, its perfect.
