East of West: The Apocalypse Year One Hardcover – July 21, 2015

Oh man, this is exactly what a comic book should be: outsized, with an epic storyline, characters with complicated motivations that rise above cliche or archetype, dramatic art that hits you over the head and conveys action and violence, and that balance between teenage pulp and adult literature. This series excels at all of these, and is up there with Lazarus as one of the best series around. Buy it!

Amazon has been recommending this to me for a long time, I buy graphic novels but I thought, nah, I don't like westerns, I don't like apocalyptic fiction, kept reading other stuff I enjoy and Amazon kept pushing this (and Saga, which I have yet to read) at me. Finally I caved and have to say, this is one of the best comics I have ever read, in any genre, full stop. The art, the characters, and in particular the dialogue, the voice of the characters is compelling. I'm not even sorry I got it in hardback, it's that good. The hardback is beautiful as well, good paper and clean ink, gorgeous reproduction, though too tall to fit in my bookcase with the standard graphic novels. It has some adult content and of course plenty of violence, all of it fantasy not "gritty and realistic" so I'd be comfortable letting my teenage daughters read it, but probably not the ten year old. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone adult or close to adult who loves comics.

Jonathan Hickman continues to churn out classic tales. The man really does know how to craft an epic saga with memorable characters and moments. Dragotta's art is flawless and I don't have the book in front of me to give credit where it's due, but the inking and coloring are also wonderfully done. It is a dark story with plenty of murder and macabre mixed with politics, drama, and myth thrown atop western gunslinger archetype. The book itself is crafted very well. The binding is excellent and the covers are STURDY. Great book from a master storyteller in comics.

This series is a wonderful blend of science fiction and fantasy. The internal mythos is as rich as it is exciting for the reader to explore. Without saying too much, this series is something special; it's a fusion of an alternate history and a futuristic, dystopian retelling of the Book of Revelation. If you enjoy gorgeous character design and clever use of a dubiously trustworthy narrator, this series is definitely for you.

It's a great book, well written..the storyline is addictive..its like I have to see where this going.The artwork is great and consistent, meaning one person did it ( not different artist).highly recommended.

I am surprised at how this comic quickly fell into my lap and now has become a new love of my life. This series has a great tone and plot. If you mix a Sergio Leone western with some cyberpunk elements, awesome/creative world-building, have Tarantino type suspense/drama with a fun anime cartoon feel, then this is what you get. GREATNESS!!! All in a beautiful jacket-less hardcover. Collects issues 1-15. The first three trades. I am a big fan of Image and their Deluxe HC. Best bang for your buck and this is how comics should be read. Imo

Highly recommended for something different and something wild. I really enjoyed this one and going to buy the second one after this book. Recommended for the beautiful art, wild storyline, and cool characters.

This book is fine. It really is. The art is nice. The story is nice. But, based on review, I went in expecting more. I found myself quickly growing tired of the characters. Once I lost interest in them, the book became boring and repetitive. Perhaps it's just personal taste, but this one did not click with me.

The art in this book is amazing. The story is good, but be aware it's a slow burner. The intricacy of politics are not always easy to follow (a bit like Game of Thrones in that sense). But at the end of this first book, they have a recap of all 7 nations which helps a lot I find. A lot of mystery in this first book and I can't wait to read the other to have all the explanations!I'll read and re-read this a lot. Very enjoyable to read

Perfekter Zustand und schnelle Lieferung. Ich bin sehr zufrieden!

"East of west" ha sido una de series de comics que más me han gustado en los últimos años. Al final fueron 45 números americanos, que en Imagecomics dividieron en 3 volúmenes deluxe que son una gozada: Más de 500 páginas que recogen los primeros 15 números (correspondería a los 3 primeros libritos editados aquí en España por Norma) y unas extras muy interesantes (además del guión del primer número americano, portadas y la historia de cada una de las 7 familias. Una maravilla ,vaya). Pasta dura, tamaño mayor del habitual (del mismo tamaño que los de Saga deluxe o que la edición deluxe que hizo ECC de The Sandman) para apreciar la maravilla de dibujos que hace Dragotta (el color de Martin también suma,claro). El mundo distópico imaginado por Hickman, este western de ciencia ficción lo hace posible los lápices de Dragotta... Qué arte.. En cuanto a la historia. En estos primeros 15 números, se nos van presentando a los personajes, Death, Crow and Wolf junto con los otros 3 horsemen.. más cada una de las familias y sus peculiaridades.. Así acaba el año 1. Luego viene el año 2, con la continuación y finalmente el año 3 con el desenlace que fue sacado hace unos meses... Una serie espectacular, como Saga o Deadly class y mi recomendación es que se compre esta edición, la original en inglés, pues por un lado está fenomenalmente editada y por otro, si sumas los 3 volúmenes a unos 40€ cada uno (pues aunque su precio es de 50, siempre hay ofertas) es bastante más barato que los 10 números, a unos 17€ por número, que ha sacado Norma en pasta blanda, y peor editados.Espero que haya sido útil mi valoración

Ótima história pelo Hickman. Bem envolvente, trama expansiva e conceito diferenciado. Um grupo de poderosos que querem cumprir a profecia do fim do mundo com o auxílio dos cavaleiros do apocalipse. Muitas reviravoltas bem escritas e personagens legais.

Excelente edición, tiene muy buena calidad tanto en la pasta dura como en las hojas, la edición trae material extra que se agradece bastante.
