Cat, Dog & Pest Ultrasonic Repeller, Cordless Solar Charged, Indoor/Outdoor, Motion Activated
I ordered 2 of these based on 4 perfect "5" reviews hoping I will have the same experience, plus I was convinced by the fact that it is solar-powered and can be charged by a USB cable (battery-operated ones are very high maintenance). I have a problem with my crazy neighbor's cats pooping all over my front and back yards. I received the items 3 days ago, charged them and set them up in the backyard. Last night I checked on them, set them up to frequency 5 to get the most effect and they were flashing while I was holding and close by. It's actually fascinating to watch it flash and I was really convinced it would scare the cats off. So I checked my backyard this morning, and lo and behold, there was fresh cat poop 3 feet away from where I set up one of these repellers. My shoulders fell, and I was so heart-broken because it only means I have not found a solution to my problem with the cats, and that this does not really work as raved by those early reviewers. Sorry for this negative review, but I was really hoping I will get it right this time, as I have already purchased another brand before which was really useless and turned out to be just a waste of money.Update: December 12, 2015I never could understand how the rating of this product is high. I have a security camera now and I could see my neighbor's cats hanging out near where I installed the 2 units I purchased. They're opearational coz they flash every time I go near them, but they don't scare the cats. And, you don't even need a security camera to realize it does not work once you see the cats' poops near where these units are installed. So very disappointing ...Tips to those who have problems with stray cats and crazy neighbors: The 99 cents fly traps work better because when the cats stepped on them, they always go crazy running around until the traps are removed, I noticed that the visits have gone down 90%, the cats tend to find other way ins, I just put fly traps there, and then cats step on them again and they avoid those areas. That's where my security camera really helps, I am able to spy where the cats try to sneak in my property.

Definitely scares sweet cats, probably scares the rest.
Despite living in an urban area far from nature, my backyard was home to a stray cat I fed and 3 squirrels, a possum, a raccoon, and a skunk who thought I was also feeding them. I was starting to feel like Dr Doolittle when I went outside and tried to talk them out of coming any closer to me. The cat I'm fond off. The possum has nails so long, they click when he walks, but I don't think he'll rip my face off. The raccoon might. And the skunk routinely punks me to my face and the wiggles his tail like a threat.Bought this machine 3 days ago, and I've only seen the cat, and only when she approached from behind. Wasn't sure if that was luck or if the product worked, but early this morning, she happened to walk in front of it and set it off. She stared at it, ran under the bench, and then ran under the fence. Poked her head back under to do some recon, and shot back under when it turned back on. I think it works. To hedge my bets, I set the sensor on it's highest setting (for small ankmals) and turned the dial to 5 (which is all 3 sounds for different animals and flashing light). I can see the light and hear one of the pitches, so I know it's on. It loops a few times when activated and then turns off. I keep it on the ground so that my highly sensitive, easily annoyed, too-close-for-comfort neighbor can't see the the flashes over my fence, and so far, so good. I do turn it off in the morning when the nocturnal scary animals are asleep to preserve battery and allow the cat to come and go freely and eat. I also think the animals might not catch on if they thing the danger is unpredictable. Not sure how long or will last, but I'm Queen of My Domain for now at least.

Perfect Garden Protection
I have owned this product for two months and have been EXTREMELY impressed with its functionality. To begin, I live in Colorado at 9,000 ft of elevation and am using this device as a pest repellent for my garden. The pests in question range from mice and chipmunks to deer, elk and bear. Getting anything to grow at this altitude is incredibly time consuming and to have your veggies gulped down overnight by a deer can be infuriating. The device has remained active and outside the entire summer and is still working perfectly. It has been soaked by rain and is constantly in full sun. I have had no problems with any animals touching my garden (no fence) and the bear has stayed away from my trash can (unexpected additional benefit). Oddly, it does not seem to bother my dog at all. Actually, the noise annoys me worse than the dog. For me, this product was 100% worth the purchase price (honestly, I'd probably pay more now that I know how effective it is).P.S.- It also does not seem to bother the hummingbirds either.

tested it with my dog and it seems like it works
tested it with my dog and it seems like it works, it is barely audible for humans but when my dog hears it, he will run away....not sure how else to test its effectiveness but it does work. I only wish it has a connector for outside power source, or have the solar panel remotely mounted so that I can put this under a car that is stored outside under a car cover. My neighborhood is infested with feral cats and they would hang out under a car I have in the yard. I want to put this under the car to scare away the cats but if I do, it will never see sunlight which is why I would like it even more if the solar panel is detachable, but other than that, can't really complain because it does what it says in the description.

Well thought through design - Either love cats or give them cat-hell.
The manual (which one should read) states that some frequencies can be heard by certain people while not by others. This is exactly the case in our family. When coming in close proximity of the device it does emit a very high pitched sound. Maybe depending on the setting there is also a white flash (series of LED) going off a few times when going near to the device. These LEDs are built into the grey area that contains, I think, the sensor. So, go near - might hear a high pitched frequency-sound - get flashed. Don't go near: nothing happens unless the battery is low than some red LEDs blink. Great too to keep burglars busy.Whether it works? I can imagine a cat doesn't like the flash light and if their ears are better than mine it likely will learn to keep its distance.I have not seen any cat or fox going near the device but obviously I am not observing my garden at all time. Today a cat was sitting on the other end of the garden looking suspicious towards the device in the remote corner. After some time it strolled off, keeping its distance from what might me cat-ear hell. Good. My wife wants me to buy a couple more of these devices to clear the area completely. It certainly seems to work. The pole comes in 2 parts and is rather blunt so unless it is in a flowerbed some other poking tool might be needed to put it in place. The only thing about the design I would have tried to change would be to have some storage space for the pole when not in use as these bits are the kind that get misplaced until one want to use them.

Does work but solar panel not working
I thought I would give this a try due to the great reviews.I was at my wits' end to know how to combat the absolute carnage caused by the neighbourhood cats in my brand new raised planters. Before going on holiday I had planted and covered them with netting, making sure that the netting was secured by bricks all around. When I returned there was a huge mound of cat mess in the beds, on the netting and on the surrounding grass. In desperation I bought this and all this seemed to stop. However, my solar panel does not seem to work. Having had a few weeks of constant sun I thought the batteries would be fully charged. Then the cat mess reappeared on the lawn and I found that the batteries were dead and took a full charge. I check them every day now and give them a full charge every two days - which I am sure is not right. I may try and re-site the unit out of the way of the raised beds, just in case this is causing a bit of shadow, though I doubt it. as it is in full sun. I have not given this product five stars because of this.

Not that effective on grey squirrels or cats
Had this a few weeks now. On the plus side the solar panel seems to keep the batteries charged and after some torrential rain it seems watertight. The box itself seems reasonable quality but the two piece spike is poorly designed. If you are going to make a spike make sure it has a point!. You would struggle to put this in soft sand and it is flimsy so will take very little pressure. I have tried every setting but the squirrels just ignore it. I seem to get less cats but one regular visitor just carries on making a mess. Overall its OK but I really cannot recommend.

Total waste of time
Doesn't work at all, tried all settings and yet still cat poo in my garden and right in front of the this unit....2 days running, think it's time to get the air rifle out lol....I don't know how many good reviews have been left ,I'm starting to think I have a faulty unit

My garden is no longer a litter tray!
Works really well! It's so great not having to spend 30 minutes picking up cat mess off the lawn before I can mow it. However it won't charge via the solar panel, so once a week I have to bring it inside and charge it up. It's a bit annoying but ultimately it's worth it, and really it's my own fault for not returning as soon as I realised.
