Hailing from Norway, Christian black metal's most prolific and infamous band returns with the 2012 release of Omen, a beautifully anti-blasphemous epic masterpiece. The band is credited with starting the northern European Christian extreme metal scene. The band's brand of black/doom metal carried such a reputation that Antestor is the only Christian band to have an album released by Cacophonous Records, home to bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Sifg, and Cradle of Filth.

Holy moly!
Wow! Well, Antestor does it again! They release yet another phenomenal "black" metal style (or unblack -as they are Christians) album. And man, it does NOT disappoint! Now, I have a previous album of their's and they, to me anyway, seem to mix black metal and a little death metal together to get their own mixture. If you're looking for "raw" black metal, like a Mayhem or early Emperor or other "first wave" black metal bands, this is NOT gonna be your cup of tea. This well produced -not to be taken that it's slick or "pop" music, just very well done and all instruments are heard. This is not a lo-fi recording in the least. They almost bring a symphonic element at times; a lot of atmosphere and the music is epic (similar to mid to later Emperor as an example only). This is some great metal -and it's "un-black" to boot! I recommend this to any metal head who likes the more extreme styles. Very very recommended well done!

A great experience!
I agree with the other positive reviews on here but I wanted to add that I personally can't listen to this album UNLESS it has my full attention. Most music I can simply play while I'm talking to a friend in the car or playing my Playstation 3. However, it would be a WASTE to do that with this album. These aren't just memorable riffs, hooks, drum grooves, and vocals for the sake of catchiness. It's as if each miniscule note and melody is precisely written to add immense atmosphere. It's a mix of doom, gloom, dread, and hope. This is a great upgrade of their sound and sure to be a classic. Get this now!

At last!
Love Antestor's brand of black metal, if your looking for something new to add to your black metal collection this might be what your looking for. Lots of ebb and flow to this CD. I would give this a five if they had at least one song that returned to the doomy black metal found on martyrium I.e. thoughts or inmost fear. It would have been a great way to end the CD.

very powerful and menacing sounding
...but doesn't make a bold statement, or really go hard at any point. It all just kind of blurs together. Why the five stars? because it's really good for a Christian death metal band. The best Christian death metal album ever is Liberate te ex Inferis by ZAO. The current line-up of ZAO doesn't consist of hardly any of the same members so don't expect any of their albums. Get the 1999 line-up. Best Antestor song? Materialistic Lie. I forget the name of the poorly recorded album that one is on.

Possibly the best sound of 'Un-black' metal I have ever heard.
I was not interested in this type of metal to begin with. I am usually more metalcore, thrash metal, speed metal, hard rock, some heavy metal. But when I heard some pieces of these guys, I decided to buy the album. I have not regretted since. This album contains some of the best riffs, drums, speed picking, vocals, melody, and pure awesomeness. Trust me, you won't need work out supplements when listening to these guys!

Best Antestor Album
I have always been into Antestor and I love them, but at time I have found their music to be slow and quite lethargic. This is not the case with Omen. This is IMHO the best Antestor album. The music in Omen is fast, impactful and in your face. Musically, it is one of the best stuff I have heard in years. Melodic and raw. I give it a 6 start over 5 ;)

What More Can I Say ?
Lots of lengthy reviews here, Buy this if you don't have it - so good.Praise Jehovah and meditate on these words from Jesus - "Jesus said to them: “If God were YOUR Father, YOU would love me, for from God I came forth and am here. Neither have I come of my own initiative at all, but that One sent me forth."Jah Bless!

Black Metal
Sometimes I forget this is Christian and find myself enjoying it as much as I do the Second Wave guys.

unblack metal vom feinsten
Deshalb: "Sehr Gut".

Lean and angry.
Quite simply, Omen is The Forsaken’s leaner, stripped-down, angrier cousin. Perhaps sick of the flak and hate they have received over the years, Antestor come roaring out of the gates from the get-go on this one. Though Hellhammer is absent now, the drumming is just as quality. Vrede (Ronny Hansen) screams his lungs out almost out of sheer desperation here, and fortunately, the keyboards and symphonic elements of The Forsaken are thankfully gone. In their place, Antestor frantically and ferociously hounds the listener with their anguish, seemingly bottled-up over the years, as if to prove beyond all shadow of a doubt that they are a serious band to be reckoned with, a band that has literally been through hell and back and survived to tell the tale (just listen to “Morkets Grode” for proof). Omens boasts, to its credit, a wonderful, stripped-down folk element that is most welcome. This is an angry album, one recorded by a band that has become the personification of a cornered wild animal. Driving, black, and feral, Omens is a fine return to form for unblack metal’s elite.
