Beats any Metal Steamer any Day of the Week!!!
Love this steamer. I have had this item over two years. It still does the job. Perfect for a couple or small family of 4. Making steamed buns, veggies, fish, and dumplings in this thing is a breeze. Also impresses guest. Also makes your home smell of yummy eats and bamboo. If you can get them in your area, banana leaves are great to use as a barrier, so that you don’t damage or stain your steamer. They also add great flavor to your dishes. You can also buy them dried and reanimate them. Parchment works too. Also which is available in large quantities in Texas and surely in your area too, are corn husk. Usually found in the Spanish aisle of your local grocer. They add flavor to your dishes as well.Soak this thing when you first get it and then steam it for a while solo. The water is going to be a gross color at first. With time it will be less and less and eventually no color will show up. For our fish lovers, steam the steamer for 30 minutes after cooking . Give it a good soak, let it dry. If there’s still an odor, when storing I put a small ramekin or glass dish with a few table spoons of baking soda on the bottom and top layer and store. Careful not to store when wet. Also check on it periodically while drying out. Layers and lid will warp, due to the fact that a circle is not bamboo’s natural shape. Stack towards the end of drying so that pieces will fit one another for next round of cooking. Better then metal due to delicate veggies will turn to mush on the hot surface. Bamboo’s surface doesn’t get so hot.Well worth the money. I recommend this to anyone who like steamed goodies and want to try something new. You'll find yourself using it more then you thought.

New to steaming
I’m new to seamers and steaming so perhaps I should wait to review this product. The worst disappointments was that there were no instructions for cleaning/prepping the steamer before the first use. YouTube was of little help because of such wildly conflicting information. Use oil on the surfaces? Do not use oil? Soak in vinegar water? Baking soda, salt, vodka? In addition, I spent a couple of hours devoted to sanding splinters. Luckily, the sandpaper found the worst one before it went under my fingernail. I don’t know what is to be expected of a bamboo steamer as far as workmanship, etc. so I’m a little limited in my review.

Love this steamer
I purchased this steamer to cook dumplings that were sent to us as a gift. I had never used a bamboo steamer before. This one is large and spacious and sturdy. It fit over the top of a large soup pot that I filled about 1/4 full of water. I had two types of dumplings that cooked for two different times. I filled one level with dumplings and steamed them first half way through their cooking time. I then put that level basket on top of the second basket and continued steaming until both were ready. All the dumplings came out perfectly cooked. The steamer basket is very easy to use and easy to rinse and wipe out when finished.

12 inch Bamboo Steamer
The Wok with Tak YouTube channel is a great resource for learning how to steam food to perfection. Not only do they provide helpful tips on prepping and cleaning, but they also make it easy to understand and follow along. The 12 inch Bamboo Steamer is a versatile cooking tool that can be used for a variety of dishes, and the channel shows just how easy it is to maintain and keep clean. This is a wonderful & fun purchase.

Good enough, not perfect.
It's hard to comparison shop with these steamers unless you can see them before you buy, and that was harder than I expected. No one local had them even though they admitted their popularity, so I assume that there wasn't enough profit for the space they take up on the shelves. As to its condition, so far so good. The steamer comes without instructions (obviously because they assume I am a FANTASTIC chef!) It is also less than perfect in construction but I think the secret of these is to make sure you soak them when they arrive. I soaked mine for about an hour in hot water then steamed it (empty of food) for 30 minutes. The weave on the top was not settled in prior to soaking, but was actually protruding out a bit from the groove where it belongs. It was also bulging on the surface. The rounds aren't perfectly shaped, either. Eh! It's cheap bamboo...I wasn't expecting perfection. I slipped the weave back into the groove prior to soaking and that bit of expansion I got from the water, combined with the steaming afterward which did the trick. No bulging of the top or protrusion of the weave. Very functional. Good luck with yours!
