I can't write more highly about it. Its still on at about the same asking price, and i would think that if i ever decide to sell it i would get most of what i paid back. I bought it both for use as a time machine backup device, utilising the RAID feature, and also with the intention of doing video editing in the future and using it as a scratch disk. Right now i'v just used it as a backup. Previously i bought different backup devices such as those from Western Digital. The problem was, when i needed them most, when something went wrong with my Mac, i discovered that the WD backup disk was faulty too, or at least it wasn't working as it should. Having one backup disk isn't the way to go for me, my data is too precious. I lost data that took me months to collect and thousands of pounds before, using one of the WD ones, and even paying 250 quid to a data extractor didn't help. After that, i needed something better for backups. The Caldigit VR2 is in an entirely different league - its wonderful and it looks good. Now, even if my mac HDD fails, as has happened several times, even if one of the RAID disks should fail, then i still have the other RAID disk that should protect me. Now i would have to have 3 separate disks fail to have a problem - so i can sleep better now !!! Obviously its a lot more expensive than something like a WD. At the same time its only half the price of some thunderbolt systems. I find it fast nonetheless, using a firewire cable. The only complaints i can level is that i'm using firewire, rather than thunderbolt, and i would probably look around at those first before buying one of these again. At the time of purchase the fact they were twice the price wasn't worth it for me. The maintenance system that is built into the RAID seems good - it does its job, and i don't notice its there. All in all i'm extremely happy with my purchase - i'm looking forward to using it in video editing. If i ever buy another external hard drive or RAID system the first, and probably the only place i will look will be Caldigit. Why noone else has reviewed one i don't know - its BRILLIANT, WORTH EVERY PENNY AND MORE. I would say not to look anywhere else but Caldigit if you're fortunate enough to be able to afford one of these wonderful products. Thank god i got away from those horrible external hard drives i was paying a hundred quid for - they seemed cheap, but i would say that a hundred was expensive for them, and five hundred is cheap for this !!! Incidentally its also childs play to use - it was five minutes of reading when i first got it, then basically nothing to worry about, and easy to change settings if you need to. I would never buy one of Apples own backup devices as the reviews i'v seen weren't good.
