Fulton ETC 0101 Economy Spare Tire Carrier, Silver

Used this to mount a 5 lug wheel, 4.8x12 spare on our 14' Yacht Club PWC trailer with 3" square frame. I put the spare on top of the frame immediately behind the winch post. Leaves 2-3" of clearance between the spare and the PWC's hull. Perfect. It's a little pricey for what it is. But it's also a lot cheaper than most alternative methods.

Perfectly good product, with a really poor Amazon description. First, it is 1/2 inch diameter steel (very serious). Second, it is NOT galvanized. If used outside, it will rust eventually. It is zinc coated (like regular bolts at Home Depot) so it will not rust immediately. Manufacturer knows that this is an outside product, so it should be galvanized. Third, the interior "throat" is slightly more than 3 inches wide (will fit over a three inches wide trailer tongue). Fourth, the dimension listed on Amazon are dead wrong. It is 9 1/2 inches long, not 12. Fifth, the "narrow" portion of the interior "throat" is 3 inches long, then it "flares out" to a width of 3 and 3/4 inches. Sixth, if you are trying to figure out if it will fit the holes in your tire rim, the "outside to outside" measurement of the bolt end is about 4 5/8 inches (that means "center of hole to center of hole" measurement is about 4 1/4 inches). Seventh, there is no "play" in this thing, so either it fits or it does not.

Works great! Like other reviews have mentioned; this is not weatherproof. I store my trailer inside, which is helpful. But of course, pulling it in the rain is a real possibility. For trailers store outside, or boat trailers where the planned mounting place of the spare could become consistently submerged, I'd consider looking elsewhere. Though, the price of this is extraordinarily cheap; so replacing it is far from a heartache.I used this to mount an 8" spare tire on the drawbar of my motorcycle cargo trailer (one pulled behind a motorcycle). It worked just fine. I did need spacers to make the skinny, small 8" wheel fit snugly, but that's no big deal. I now have pulled this trailer, with the spare mounted like this, for a little over 1,000 miles at the time of this review; without issue!

The price is great. It's a simple solution.The only downfall is that it slides forward & back on the trailer frame. When it slides forward the tire interferes with the winch handle. When it slide back the tire rubs on the boat hull. I tightened it to the point where the U bolt starts to deform & I don't want to bend the rim of the wheel. Maybe inner surface of the U bolt needs to be rough to prevent sliding.

I had to use 2 spacers to mount my spare with this, would be nice if the threads were a little longer.

Although it is for a four hole wheel, it’s spread is too wide. Tried adjusting it but couldn’t. The spare fits if you “drive” it on and it marred the threads and scraped the paint off the wheel. Even harder to get off. Had I had the spare before I could have checked the fit. But it’s in use, just not very handy.

It was extremely heavy and the threads could go deeper. I ended up putting a block of wood behind the metal cross piece I was mounting to. This wood block allowed the threads to extend out so that wheel nuts could be threaded on.

This is my second bracket. Appears to be well made.

for me it was perfect for my kind of trailer. i installed the spare on the side of the trailer and it was very secured in less than 2 minutes.
