Great for your pack or larger cargo pocket
I love this notebook holder. It keeps all my pens and pencils organized, plus the extra pockets for map rulers, gta, and utm tools. The map window isn't the largest. but if you have a larger scale map you can fold it down and use it to keep bearings on target. Or like I do with my 1-24000 I just fold the map along as I travel so I can keep track of features surrounding me as I move across the map

Very durable field cover
An excellent product. I am a geologist and the Rite In The Rain hardback notebooks, specifically the 540F fit nicely. It has plenty of loops for pens and pencils and a magnet for testing, as well as a pocket where you can put a map, streak plate and compass plate for assisting with strike and dip. So far it is working well in doing field work.

A great little cover
I use this all time. Love that it’s durable and holds my pens. The see through map cover is great for not only maps but lists also for quick review. I recommend it.

Useful
Not much to complain about. It came in handy for backpacking and hiking. The main reason why I got it. I can have a couple trail maps, pens, and rite in the rain not pad for notes. The best feature is the clear top for mapping your location.Only complaint is that I couldn’t fit my small waypoint compass in it. Easy fix though, I just used a lanyard and had it around my neck lol.

A five if not for a scuffed plastic map window
This product will fulfill my needs during SAR field missions, providing elastic loops for seven writing instruments, a zippered compartment to secure measuring devices, thumb drives, reference cards, and a slot for a strip map. It is nice that you can stuff this holder with all the above plus a field book (# 980) and it will still zip closed. Only complaint was it arrived without its removeable protective cover over the plastic map window, resulting in several preexisting scuff marks. Not that I won't be scuffing it up myself in short order.

Great Concept, But Needs Some Tweaks
I do a lot of GPS mapping for work - mainly of fence and property lines in very rural areas - and wanted a good cover for my notebook that could also hold a few documents and pencils. The clear cover for holding maps seemed like a perfect way to keep my maps handy without having to frequently pull them out of my pockets, while also protecting them from the elements. The cover itself is very sturdy and of high quality. The Amazon listing notes that it fits a No. 980 Rite In The Rain notebooks, I must say that I had an awfully hard time squeezing the notebook into the cover. The worst part is that both the clear map-holder cover as well the numerous pencil slots are effectively useless. Let me explain:There is so little extra space inside the cover that adding any pencils makes it impossible to close and zipper the cover. After inserting my notebook I found that there is effectively no way to slide a map into the clear cover without first removing the entire notebook and then re-inserting it. And to top it off, it appears to be impossible to fully remove the notebook once inside the cover with destroying either the notebook or the cover itself. And the fit is so tight that the notebook cannot even be fully opened when inside the cover. If indeed this cover was actually designed for the No. 980 notebook then it appears that nobody bothered to factor in the space any pencils may take up inside the cover or the slack required to open the notebook properly. My notebook is now effectively imprisoned inside.I must say, if I could actually remove my brand new notebook without ruining either it or the cover I would return the cover immediately. The idea is great, but in its current form it renders the cover completely useless for it's intended purpose. I wish I had my $35 back so I could spend it on a cover that actually worked as advertised.

Works great with Rite in Rain
A great intro to the Battle Boards brand that functions well with the Rite in Rain 980 field book. One outside view setup that I use for a radio frequency list. Interior loops for pens and markers. All in all a good product.

Too big
I love the design of this thing, but it's just too big to fit in an admin pouch or a cargo pocket conveniently. There is at least an inch of extra width around my Rite in the Rain notebook. I returned it and went with a basic Rite in the Rain notebook cover.
