Does this cable work with as Microsoft Surface Pro 3?

Yes, I bought this cable specifically to use with my surface pro 3 to connect to my displayport monitor.

Is this cable DisplayPort 1.2 compliant (to support resolutions of 2560x1440)?

Hi Jeffrey,I am not sure whether it supports 1.2 standard or not. Unfortunately, there is no such information on the cable and its plastic pocket. Moreover, I have another similar cable - Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort by Monoprice company, 3ft, and it has the same information. So, I guess there is no way to find it out. But I have good news for you. Both cables (StarTech and Monoprice) support 2560x1440 resolution. I use both with MBP 15 2012 + Samsung SyncMaster S27A850D and MBA 13 2012 + Samsung SyncMaster S27A850D. Both work fine!

Will it work in reverse? I have a DisplayPort output and would like to connect to a MiniDP input on the monitor (U2414H).

The connections are the same, and the cable does not have a source and/or destination designation. It should work fine, but have not tried it. Please do check to make sure that your driving device has a full-size DisplayPort connection, though, before ordering.

I have a surface pro 3. what do i need to connect to my lg tv?

Get a dvi to him adapter. You can then use a Male to make him cable to connect to the HDMI port of the tv. Then in the Win 10 "Action Center" click "Project" and select the option you want.
