Crappie Fly-Fishing: A Seasonal Approach Paperback – January 1, 2013

I guess in reading the description of the book before buying it, I expected a bit more information for the locations I have out in the western U.S. (more to the ponds and lakes out west rather than the rivers environments used in the book. It is quite obvious that the author has a vast amount of experience in crappie fishing back in the southeast/east but a limited amount fishing waters in the western portion of the U.S. His experiences and information on seasons and how to locate and fish for crappie is very informative for those living in those locales he describes, but does not seem to apply in the waters I wanted information on for crappie fishing. There are some portions of the book from which I have obtained information which I might use, but the majority of the book was not very useful for my purposes resulting in my rating for this book.

I have had the pleasure over the past (geez...almost 20 years!) to spend a lot of my fly fishing time for panfish.The Wilson's classic books are torn and tattered, dog-eared, and WELL loved by me. In fact when they came to speak at my local fly fishing club...I had them sign the old beat up book over a new copy...just because it means so much to me.OK - this Crappie book is pretty incredible. As witty as ever with fantastic pics and those line drawings that really bring the text to life. The new 'slant' they are taking in some of their flies - materials and sizes - in this pursuit of crappie are very 'forward thinking.'An easy and fun read - it's also a great reference book. The way they have it divided up...you can turn to your 'current season' and jump right in anytime of the year.

This book is packed with information on everything crappie! Habitat, diet, where to fish and how to catch them using a fly rod. I fish for crappie year round and found the book to be very useful even when using my spinning rod. Easy to read and understand, you will find yourself referring back to this book again and again.

This is an excellent book for anyone interested in fishing for, or wanting to know more about Crappie. It is laid out well, for progressive information, and well worth the time reading and learning. I have attended the information session by the authors also, and they have spent much time on this subject to make them well qualified to write about it. I would certainly recommend this book.

Good reading for anyone interested in crappie with fly rod

Great info on catching crappie year-round in various environments. It was a big help and I'd highly recommend it for any crappie waters.

This was a gift for my honey. He seems to think it is just dandy, and that makes me happy.
