Would Not Buy Again
This rack seemed like the perfect option for our Silverado 6ft cap. Holes needed to be drilled into the cap and install didn't take long. A 2x4 was a good solution to making sure both ends stayed level during installment. We purchased this rack for our camping trips. We load a lot of stuff into the cap section so we needed above storage for our kayaks. We purchased the rack well in advance before our 10 night trip (2 months). Right before the trip we installed our J bars (x4) which fit the rack perfectly. We made the 4 hour maiden voyage flawlessly and used our brand new kayaks on our family trip. Our kayaks were 43lbs and 47 lbs, well below the weight limit. Unfortunately our trip home was NOT the same experience. While on the highway at 75mph this rack failed. This experience was terrifying and costly. Our brand new $600 kayaks went sailing into traffic. They were badly beaten up tearing off attachments, metal hook loops, storage caps, and ultimately putting 3 irreparable holes into the hull of one.Not only was this a costly experience but it jeopardized the safety of our family and the families driving behind us, 1 of which hit the kayak during the incident. Thankfully no people were hurt. The joints where the top bars connect to the side cap bars had completely snapped. The joints are simply capped off by a thin piece of metal and are not fully welded into a secure position. We were told this was due to the rack being flexible to fit any cap angle. We had to pay to get the rack welded correctly into place in order to get our kayaks home safely. We are now out the cost of the rack, cost of the kayaks, and the cost of the additional welding. These are not safe, as is.We had to contact the seller which could do nothing except put in a request to return the item and we could contact the manufacturer. We were told that we should file a claim through Amazon. After a while we were contacted by UPS to have our item picked up. This wasn't an option for us as the entire rack was now welded correctly and we can't take it apart as it once was. We denied the return process.Because the manufacturer attempted to give us the 1 solution, our claim through Amazon is worthless. We have accepted this and have learned some purchases need a more thorough research of policies that involve failed products. The least we can do is tell our story and hope that this helps another family before this happens to them.

Deadly
Like others have stated. There is a design flaw in the hinge. This could kill someone. My kayak flew off my truck on an expressway during a holiday weekend. And since this requires drilling, I’m stuck with this useless piece of crap on the top of my truck unless I want holes to show in my cap.

Worst racks ever
Worst racks ever! The crimped on hinge wore away after a month. My surfboards could of went flying off the back of the truck and blown into passing cars. These racks are a liability. I notified the company in reference to the problem, and have not heard back from them in a timely manner. Currently my racks are useless to hauling anything.

Product was defective. Hinge would not work properly. Seller refused to replace hinge even though it went bad less than 2 months after I installed it.
