Heavy, well built. Will last a long time.
Please see the title for my overall opinion of this item. One comment here: there were a couple of negative reviews about the product being covered in "black paint" or "black grease." I'm glad to have read these reviews because they alerted me to be cautious when unpacking them (i.e.: NOT on a kitchen countertop or carpet & certainly not with fine clothing on.) There IS some residue, but it doesn't seem like paint OR grease; it's probably a byproduct of the manufacturing process. These are made of HEAVY black steel & they appear to be anodized (a coating with a protective oxide layer by an electrolytic process.) The residue seems to be a byproduct of the anodizing process, or perhaps the manufacturer uses a magnetic powder coating / paint. Whatever it is, it's this sort of thing; it's NOT wet OR greasy, but it does stain, & the stains ARE tenacious. Wear old work gloves when opening this item when it arrives. It's likely going to be used in the yard (patio) so there's no need to have it any more indoors than in a garage or shed. In time, the coating will likely wear off (not that this will leave them unprotected; again, they are VERY well made) & should leave less residue. Have a can of lubricant on hand; the rivets that form the hinges are stiff at first (again, a testament to how well made they are) but hardly inoperable. One reviewer suggested using gun oil; that would work well. So would 3-in-1 oil, WD-40 or silicone spray, but gun oil is probably the best choice.

Sturdy and very helpful for campfires
Extremely sturdy. Handle is long enough to easily move logs around without getting too close to the fire. Love it. Perfect for campfires

Heavy-duty, but paint comes off a bit
I read a lot of reviews about tongs bending because too thin or cheaply made; I wanted none of that. I wanted heavy-duty tongs that could throw around firewood without worrying about breaking or bending or ruining anything. Reviews said these would fit the bill. And out of the box they definitely feel very sturdy and well made. I'll be using heavily over the next few months and will see if there are any long-term issues with durability. One caveat: out of the box I grabbed them by the handles and my hands came off black, stained by whatever paint or finishing they put on this. Washing with soap and water cleaned my hands up, but I was worried about the tongs touching my clothing or the carpet or something else and rubbing off black. Sure, if the tips that grab the wood stain things, who cares, since there will be ash on them soon (which stains). But the handles and main body left black marks too, until I gave the whole thing a good wash and scrub with soap and water to rub off the outer coating. They still look black after the scrub, but they don't leave any residue on my hands or anything anymore. No stars off since it's not too much trouble to wash it, but be careful when you unwrap it . . .

Exactly what I wanted!
These tongs are exactly what I was hoping they would be. We have an outdoor fireplace and a fire pit, so we needed something to be able to flip, rotate, and reposition logs. The curved opening is sufficient for most standard-sized logs, but Iβve even transferred substantial stump-sized logs from the pit into the fireplace at the end of the night. Weβre talking 10β+ diameter logs. Because the tongs have the accordion closure, the bigger the log, the more leverage you can put onto it to squeeze/hold it tighter.Weβve had these for several months and left them outside in the elements the entire time. The powder-coating is solid enough that Iβm not seeing any rust or damage. I would definitely recommend these to anyone.

Heavy Duty (No Fear of Bending) Fire Tongs with Extended Reach
Nice heavy duty log mover for campfires etc.Finding a heavy duty set of tongs for picking up wood and moving it in a burning fire is easy with this item. They are heavy gauge steel that can handle picking up burning logs without the user getting too close to the flame or worrying about they bending under the weight of the log. The ends of the tongs bend inward which actually helps dig into the log and more securely hold it with little effort on the users part.Due to the heavy gauge steel and longer length I would not recommend use of these by a youngster. But then again only adults should be playing with the burning wood anyway.PROS:- Heavy gauge steel- Longer length reach compared to most- Little effort required to grip the log- Handles are comfortable on the hands- Ends dig into wood helping to keep it secure while you move it (easily withdraws when you open grip)CONS:- Storage may take up more space than most (not really a con)

Solid product
These truly are the perfect fireplace tongs. I was initially disappointed to see that the packaging was clearly labeled made in China. But I have to admit had it been marked made in USA I would not have been any the wiser. Whatever the previous reviews were referring to about the Finish coming off on your hands and making a mess must have been corrected. Mine came out of that package looking very smooth and crisp no rough edges no imperfections and a perfect black enamel finish. I can easily see why other reviews are stating that these are well worth the $30 and not to waste your time on anything less. Also noted some of the previous reviews said that they were tough to work and needed to be broken in. Mine were not they operated very smoothly right out of the box.

Easy to use
This product is sturdy and strong. Easily grabs any size log and allows you to place it where you want. Was a little stiff to open and close initially , but a little bit of wd40 fixed that. Would definitely recommend

Heavy Duty...Worth Every Penny!
Quick Review:Nice, Nice, Nice! They are definitely heavy duty and provide you with the safety of moving logs on a fire.I can move the largest pieces without bend or flex to the tongs. Some posters mentioned a black residue on the tongs (probably from manufacturing process) however mine arrived completely free of any.I like them so much I bought two...one for home and one for RV.Well worth the money!!!Recommended!
