An easy upgrade for a favorite lamp.
I have a small reading lamp originally designed to accept a candelabra base 40 watt incandescent bulb. My first upgrade was to use an LED replacement bulb, removing the defuser, producing a more concentrated, whiter, and brighter beam, with the bonus of a much lower wattage and giving off much less heat. This lamp also came with a small rotary switch on the cord. You probably have seen these yourself. The toothed wheel only works when turned in the correct direction; the switch's location is very inconvenient, and it is not particularly easy to operate. So my second upgrade was this touch switch. It works perfectly with the LED bulb. A quick tap-tap-tap, the light is at full illumination. The lowest setting also works well for some ambient light while watching TV. I have been using this for two months now and love the convenience and the ability to put the touch disc in an easy to reach location for controlling the lamp.HOW I ASSIGN STARS IN A REVIEWThe star ratings are always in relation to the item's intended purpose, type, and durability.5 stars - The item is perfect with no room for meaningful improvement. The item performs its intended function consistently, and without fail. It also appears to be durable in its manufacture and materials.4 stars - While not perfect, any imperfections are likely to go unnoticed in normal use. The item should be durable given normal care and handling.3 stars - The item has significant short comings or limitations, but these do not significantly degrade performance. And/or the item may not be durable if not handled with some degree of care.2 stars - The item has defects or short comings that compromise performance. And/or the item may be likely to fail prematurely even with careful use.1 star - The item does not function correctly in any meaningful way or is very difficult or even hazardous to use. And/or the item failed completely with very little use.

These are great
I have arthritis and turning on a lamp is difficult for me. I have four of these now. It is so easy to reach for the touch pad. Yay

No Modification to the Lamp
I have several lamps that have a touch control inside the lamp. One of these failed recently and I replaced it with one of these external touch pads. This device plugs into any electrical outlet, then you plug the lamp into the device. This works with any lamp and does not require you to modify the lamp wiring like the internal control devices. If you are replacing an internal touch control you will need to remove the old internal control and connect the lamp wire as they were originally before the touch control was added. An additional bonus is that these controls act as a 3-way dimmer without using a3-way bulb. The device says that it is not recommended for LED or CFL lights, but I am using one on a chandelier that uses five LED bulbs and it works perfectly. The wire on the touch pad is long enough so that you can position the touch pad a considerable distance from the lamp, approximately 6 to 8 feet away.

Awesome little dimmer!
My wife and I wanted to convert one of our bedside lights into a "3-way" light with light levels that ranged from candle-light to reading-light brightness. This fit the bill almost perfectly. It's only drawbacks are it doesn't work with LED lights (even dimmable ones) and the base unit that plugs into the wall didn't fit into the 90-degree plug adapter we use so our power cords don't stick outward and force us to pull the bed away from the wall. I solved those problems by using a 29-watt halogen bulb replacement that puts out the same light as traditional 40 watt bulb, and I used a cheap extension cord to connect the box to the outlet.Pros* Great touch dimming with regular and high efficiency incandescent bulbs.* With a 40w bulb (or halogen equivalent) you can dim your light down to candle-like light levels. Great as a night light setting or more romantic bedroom lighting.* Easy installation.* The touch pad has a long cord on it, so you can put it quite several feet from the wall socket.* Velcro-like adhesive pads make it easy to mount the touch sensor in almost anywhere. I mounted ours upside-down and out of sight under a bedside shelf.Cons:Does not work with LED or CFL lights. A real pity, that.Theboxy base unit may not fit your wall socket arrangement.

Turned on and off a few times- then caput!
I had something like this years ago. It was fantastic and worked great. The touch pad became separated from the wire after a while and we attached the wires to a tea pot. Fun to mystify people. The dog was even on to the trick and would nose the teapot to turn on the light and get our attention. Awe memories. This one is much the same, easy to plug in and set up the touch pad. Only one little problem, it didn’t last 5 minutes. Garbage! The last one I had was used with an incandescent bulb while this time I’m using a LED bulb. I wonder if that makes a difference? I tried an incandescent bulb without luck as well. The lamp is now plugged back in normal and functioning as designed, without the touchpad.Value for money? No value to me.

They work! both for dimming and to turn off.
Had some of these from local box stores in the past where I had to tap the control button over and over to get a response. Not these. They respond on the first tap. They don't appear to diminish the bulb brightness either. Installed one and could not see any difference in brightness to an identical lamp and bulb where I had not installed the dimmer yet. The fact that they will work with LED bulbs is a plus. We still had some 150 watt incandescent bulbs so used those. But when they die it will be LED bulbs for me for me.
