The Royal Arms of England was first adopted at the start of the age of heraldry (circa 1200) by the Plantagenet kings who ruled England from 1154. It is recognized as a symbol of England and has not been altered since it was established during the reign of Richard (1189-1199), the second Plantagenet king.
