I think this might be the best work from this project to date--which is a pretty towering achievement given TROB's heavy hitting discography. From the opening track you are shoved headfirst into a swirling mire of black metal psychedelia, and from track to track this stranglehold doesn't let up. There are a lot of sounds, textures and melodies that are entirely unique to the BM genre, and yet the record compromises none of it's darkness or weight. It's balance of light and dark, soft and harsh are often swirled together simultaneously into a single wall of sound. This gives it a very fever dream feel, as if you're traversing through the thick of an ayahuasca trip--which given the shamanistic album art I imagine this is intentional. I've yet to really 'figure out' the structures of these six tracks, but generally they seem to alternate seamlessly from fiery black metal dirges to dense plumes of hypnotic sound, and the lack of traditional song structure really compliments the murky and overwhelming atmosphere of the album. It's a really compelling listen with a ton of replay value and a lot to wrap your head around. Highly recommended.

One of the top 5 bands in black metal at the moment. Complex (but not overly so), atmospheric, doomy and very heavy.

THE RUINS OF BEVERAST es una “one-man-band” creada en 2003 y capitaneada por Alexander von Meilenwald, que se encarga de todos los instrumentos y que además es componente de TRUPPENSTURM, VERDUNKELN o lo ha sido de ABUSUS o los NAGELFAR germanos entre otros conjuntos.Este es el quinto larga duración de esta banda. Aquí amplia su horizonte a incorporar más elementos distintos, como momentos tribales, pasajes de música india o cánticos/coros eclesiásticos. Los temas, una vez más, se basan en la densidad y en los ambientes tan oscuros como épicos, con una ferocidad Black Metal que se confunde con la pesadez y los tempos lentos del Doom,Impresionante el tema Exuvia: tiene destellos góticos, industriales y atmosféricos.

Schon lustig das ich hier auf die Hemdlänge und passt zur Brust schreiben soll. Leute das ist eine CD. The Ruins of Beverast ist ne Band. Eine total gute Cd. Kaufen, nicht das Hemd, die Cd...

Was für ein geiles Album!Mal doomig, mal schnell,mal Black,mal Death,mal ruhig....einfach genial.Unglaublich abwechslungsreiche Platte.Für mich eines der besten Alben des Jahres.
