Shaolin [Blu-ray] [2015]

Not as good as the original Shaolin Theatre play. This one uses a plot line based on the original Shaolin Theatre performance when the Monks first performed at Earls Court. Hence the story of 5 monks surviving the burning of the Shaolin Temple carries on in this new play. Kungfu performances are top notch but the story and dramatics are rather heavy and I found most of the kung fu demos repetitive and any new demos rather boring and not to the standard that I know the real Shaolin monks are capable of. Kung fu comprises of so many forms and techniques and I feel that the producers / choreographers should have taken more trouble to bring something new to this production rather than what on the whole appears to be a regurgitation of kungfu choreography already used in previous seasons of Shaolin Theatre performances. Did the producers or choreographers think we couldn't tell the difference? They ought realise that standards have risen with more and more people being exposed to Shaolin Kungfu training and Shaolin Kungfu action movies. No doubt little kids may find the action interesting but the screen play would be incomprehensible and boring to them. Whoever is in charge of these theatre plays must pull their socks up!

Very slow in terms of 'action'. It was bought for 12 year old grandson, who is studying martial arts and is very keen, but he quickly became bored by this DVD which is a recording of a show. Very informative and interesting I'm sure if you were in the audience but otherwise pretty slow. We didn't stick with the whole thing as everyone had wandered off by the time half an hour had gone by!

Great blu ray, i went to see the live show at the peacock theatre October 2015, and was eagerly anticipating the bluray release of this show, this is a must have for martial arts fans, some great martial arts on display here, the young children who took part in this are just absolutely amazing.

Bought as a Christmas gift for a family friend who is very experienced in martial arts. He raved about the gift upon opening it, so I look forward to borrowing the DVD sometime ;0)

I have always been fascinated by the discipline and skills of the Shaolin monks and this story illustrates that perfectly. A good buy for followers of the Kung Fu art.

enjoyed dvd, tells a story of the shaolin monks, thought there might be a bit more acrobatic moves from the clips i had seen, but still an enjoyable watch,

What a fabulous DVD! We were spellbound and couldn't believe what we were seeing.
