This book compares well with its competition. Some (of the competition) delve straight into classes but this takes a more developmental route in-keeping with the way the language of c++ was conceived. It is also therefore a useful guide to c++ for readers who already have c. But you don't need that, although if you are a complete noob I would say reading a short introduction to c++ might be useful, or even watching some youtube videos...whatever rocks your boat. All you need to get started is to be able to write a 'hello c++' program and you are ready to make a struct or class all of your own....this book shows you how. The book is reasonably well written. I like the way the authors have approached the subject from a 'compare and contrast with other c-style languages' kind of way, while being true to the title of the book, which is to explain how c++ implements data structures, complete with c++ nuances.
