I got the batteries in, but how do you get them out?

I finally got the battery cage loose by beating it on the driveway.  Pulled out the cage/holder and it broke because of corrosion.  It was a nice flashlight until it needed batteries.  Will not buy again.

What type of rechargeable battery would fit this if purchased separately?

I managed to use one 3.7 VDC 21700 battery with a dummy battery between the 21700 cell and tail cap. Total voltage began at 4.2 VDC with the freshly charged cell and ran for over 24hrs on high until voltage dropped to 3.2 VDC. As the battery drained the light output on high became very dim within a few hours. It’s OK for longevity but less so for performance. I recommend starting off with the 6 VDC provided by 4 AA batteries. The long, micro usb rechargeable Kunhe flashlight here on Amazon comes with two 21700 batteries connected in parallel to provide 3.7 VDC. I would have loved to use that cell but the charging function of the light is no longer working, so I would have to separate them to recharge the cells and then rewire them in parallel to keep voltage parameters correct. I actually did try two 21700 cells in series for a total of 8.4 VDC to see if I could push the LED harder but over voltage protection would not permit it so the light wouldn’t turn on in that configuration. After over volting I tested it in the single 21700 cell with the dummy (a piece of rolled-up aluminum foil wrapped in cardboard insulation) configuration and decided to go with that for long term storage since I don’t have to worry about corrosion and leaking like I would with alkaline cells.

Do you have to cycle all the light options to turn on and off the tactical flashlight?

No, pressing it down all the way turns it on/off, a lightly press cycles the light options.

Does it take any aa batteries ? ( alkaline  and zinc carbon)

I'm just using amazon basic alkaline and it is super bright....bought two. Not sure about the zinc carbon. instructions just say, "battery type: 4xAA batteries, please do not use 3.7V 14500 battery, the drive circuit will burn out".
