Very difficult to use correctly...
I was so excited to get this slicer set up, then I tried to actually USE it. It sucks! I have 3 different bread knives, one of them is actually from a bread company so I know it's right. But not ONE of them is long enough to stay between the guide slats while you cut the bread. When I pull back on the knife to do another slice the knife comes out of the far side guide and the slice is then very difficult to do. I should video the problem, maybe I will eventually. But for now it's relegated to the floor under my desk. I'm going to try and return it. But it may have been too long, I wanted to give it a fair shake...so I may have waited too long. Oh, I gave it 3 stars only because it is beautiful, well made, compactable for easy storage, and I just love the idea of it being bamboo. But without all that it would be a 1 or less stars. Oh well, live and learn. Won't buy from them again.

Great bread slicer
The bread slicer closes and opens easily and really helps in making consistently thick bread slices. The knife slots are wide enough that it takes a bit of practice to use though. Having a longer bread knife is a must. Once you use it for several loafs the results will be more consistent. The bamboo is very hard and works very well for this product. It is very well made and cleans easily.

Seems sturdy except for loose guide.
For the most part it seems sturdy, but when I put mine together the guide that's loose was split at bottom center. Was wondering if I could get a replacement?

Handy gadget
This can handle a boule shaped loaf with a little squeezing. I use a 95" knife--a longer one would work better.

Too wide, thickness of slices vary.
way too wide for easy slicing. thickness of slices not uniform from end to end.

Great for Both Handmade and Machine Made Loaves
I love home made bread but slicing it can be frustrating and wasteful. This Toughgard Bamboo Slicer is great. Three slice thickness choices, crumb tray, and sustainable bamboo; what could be better? My only suggestion is to use a bread knife that has at least a 9 inch blade. An 8 inch blade works but gets tricky near the bottom of the slice. If not needed, it folds up compactly for easy storage. This would be a thoughtful gift for anyone who makes their own bread either by hand or by machine.
