Created by acclaimed detective-noir author Mickey Spillane, private eye Mike Hammer (Stacy Keach) is a hard-boiled, two-fisted detective who mixes it up with tough guys on a mission, clean and dirty cops on the beat and drop-dead gorgeous dames with plenty of attitude. A steamy throwback to the classic film noir thrillers of the ‘50s, Mike Hammer is one tough cookie. In ‘A New Leaf’ a tobacco company scientist about to give evidence in a major trial dies suddenly. Suspicions are roused and Hammer is hired to investigate the boffin’s untimely end. But as the case unfolds, there’s a second death - a member of a wealthy tobacco family is brutally slain - leaving the private detective up to his neck in double trouble....

Mike Hammer - Private is good entertainment
This series does not have the big production values or the best writing, but it somehow hits the right notes and manages to be a ton of fun. Its almost a parody of the hardboiled noir detective genre, but it is too simple-minded and good-hearted to be a takeoff or even a spoof. Stacy Keach makes it, of course. He strikes the perfect balance, never takes his character seriously but also manages to be Mike Hammer in a way that is funny and fun. Mike Hammer - Private is good entertainment and I will miss it when I run out of episodes.

Too Cute for Hammer
I like Stacy Keach and I always loved Spillane's Mike Hammer though I quit reading those books several years ago. This series intrigued me. I'd seen one or two episodes back in the '90s but didn't watch the entire season. I tried again recently. The first few episodes were okay, lots of good saxophone music and fist fights, the usual stuff. Then it started getting too "cute." Too much cheesy humor and too many outrageous plot lines. Like Hammer leaping onto a race horse and riding down a bad guy. My Mike Hammer was cynical and tough and serious. Stacy Keach could play that role, but the writing left him with little to work with.

The original series '84-85 Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer was better. The New Mike Hammer was ok also but ...
Just that OK. The original series '84-85 Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer was better. The New Mike Hammer was ok also but slipping a little. This just doesn't work for me, not the right feel of the gumshoe. I can't describe one thing it is a lot of little ones in this "Private Eye" series that's wrong. When I watched the original series when it originally aired I thought "Damn, now that's a Private Eye". I just watched this 1998 version and think "Damn they screwed it up" Stacy Keach will always be the Mike Hammer but this version falls flat.

Don't Cut it from Prime Just Because I Watch It
I enjoy these shows. Sometimes, they go a little overboard with the titillation. I hope Amazon doesn't decide to cut it from Prime before I finish all the episodes. This seem to happen regularly, get interested in an old show and it is the gone suddenly from Prime. Of course I could pay $4 an episode to still watch it.

A memory relived
I used to watch Mike Hammer on TV years ago. This is a truly enjoyable walk down memory lane. Yes, it seems a bit overboard now, but so does every other TV show I watch as an older adult. Enjoy it for what it is.

A 1990s TV series based on a character in 1940s book series
This is a 1990s TV series based on a 1940s book series. Considering that it is in the film noire style updated to the 90s, it is very well done. The crimes they solve are universal. Stacy Keach is very good in this role. It has action, even explosions and car chases that are so popular in current crime dramas. I have enjoyed watching this series.

Best TV Series to keep getting reived.
One of the best series to get resurrected over the years. Stacy Keach has been the best in my opinion. He keeps it true to Mickey Spillane's writings. Would love to see the series brought back again, although not sure who would be the best actor for it today.

Mike Hammer as we all love him!
Since I love Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer in books as well as in movies and tv shows and since the second Mike Hammer show wasn't aired in German, I was happy to get it at least in English language - an was not disappointed. Stacy Keach performed a really good job, as he did on the first show. A must for all fans of Stacy Keach and Mike Hammer as well.

Alterserscheinungen

Hammer's Back
Mike Hammer is back. Stacey Keach reprises his role as the two-fisted private eye with an eye for the ladies. In this updated version Hammer is older and even has an assistant helping him solve the cases. This is a wittier Hammer with comedic undertones but make no mistake, Mike Hammer remains hard-boiled. Fans wouldn't want it any other way. TWO THUMBS UP!
