Bookends

If you love visiting Old Salem in Wiston-Salem, NC, you have to read this. About two totally opposite people who love to play in dirt (developer and historian/archaeologist), it is quite playful and very informative. Higgs was raised Moravian in the very Moravian town of Lititz, PA, where the story takes place. While filled with tidbits about the Moravian culture and church, it also is a chronicle of our times, and how truly making God a friend and father brings fullness of joy in the believer's life. Bookends was funny, entertaining, and informative. I liked this book so much, I gave a copy to a friend as a gift.

I dont write reviews on books especially on amazon but i must say...wow! Shipping was a little early, which is awesome! The book was exactly as described in very good condition. The book content...wow was this book hard to put down! Such a wonderfully painted mental picture as the story unfolded after each page! I have bought 2 more copies to give as gifts.

Although the heroine of this story was distinctly unlikable in the beginning of the book and made some choices I felt were not actually true to the character as written, Liz did a fairly good job at showing "the new man" God can create when our lives are turned over to him. This love story is multi-layered and heartening and definitely worth the read.

This is a very unusual story of a relationship between an architect and an historian. It is fun to watch her preconceptions (the historian)and rigid ways break down as she becomes more involved with life which he helps her to do. Along the way, she finds friends, love, and a relationship with her Lord.

While this book kind of reminded me of a hallmark movie, I really liked seeing the example of God's love pouring over the main characters. Also, there were excellent examples of trusting God to work out disagreements and tough situations...something we could all do more of in our own lives.

Read it quite a while ago, but remember that I really enjoyed it. I don't hesitate to recommend this story. Anything that has to do with books always interests me, and Liz Curtis Higgs is a great writer.

Delightful, easy read. This story takes place in one of my favorite areas so it was like visiting there as I read. She developed the characters nicely. It was a pleasure to read.

I like how this book was written. For me there was a lot of suspense and wasn't sure what was going to happen next.t

Really enjoyed this, a wonderful uplifting read. I have read a lot of Liz Curtis Higgs books & have enjoyed each one.
