This catalogue of coins from Egyptian Alexandria dated to the first three centuries of our era constitutes the next in a series of volumes presenting the ancient coins held in the collection of the National Museum in Cracow. Like most of the Museum's ancient coin collections, this group of coins was also assembled primarily thanks to gifts, beginning in 1909-1910 with a testamentary legacy from Franciszek Piekosinski, a professor at the Jagiellonian University. The holdings were expanded significantly in 1947 by a donation from Karol Halama, a well-known coin collector from Zywiec; the coins he donated constitute to the present day the core of the ancient coin collection at the National Museum in Cracow. In 1964, more than a dozen new specimens were added by purchasing the collection of Marian Gumowski, a professor at the Nicholas Copernicus University in Torun.
