Saved me a bad car purchase.
I bought this while I was looking for a car totaled by someone texting and driving (Public service: please don't do that). Figured if it could save me from a bad purchase it's worth it and I can give it to my mom when I get a nicer one that more specifically is designed for my vehicle. Tested it on my aunt's Toyota Highlander and like many of people with the bad reviews, it didn't seem to connect. Had to try a few apps as I refused to pay for one, but finally got it to work most consistently with CarScanner and iOBD2.I did in depth research on the Volvo I wanted and was ready to buy it if it passed my inspection. Had some quirks but it was a 2004 and the mechanic had already replaced parts that were concerning. Plugged in the reader and started the car up. Though it sounded a little funny, I figured it's old and had character until the app on my iPhone showed an idling error which was a red flag on my pre-check list. Got out of the Volvo and into a car that also gave an error, which had the side benefit of the dealer knowing he couldn't pull the wool over my eyes with a pretty car.Saved me even more money on the car I went with since it didn't have a code, even though the key fob had trouble starting the car. Assuming with no code it wasn't the starter and it would need a new key to work 100%, I negotiated a $250 reduction and ultimately fixed it with an $8 replacement case from Amazon; the sensor just needed cleaning. I'm so happy with the results, I'm not rushing to replace it until I put away some dough for one that also works as a TPMS.DO NOT BUY A USED CAR WITHOUT USING ONE OF THESE. Not a sermon, just a thought.

Handy little tool for Engine code reading
This compact OBD code reader is very handy for home DIYer like me, For this $35 device, It has the ability for reading the engine code for most car manufactures in the market. The App interface is pretty user friendly, It is capable of doing most of the basic task that a home mechanic needs to perform: scanning engine code, erasing engine codes; Just combining this code reader with google will make an average car owner like me some how a not-bad-mechanic. Just be sure that you know what you were doing before erasing any engine code. One thing I have to note is General scanner like this is only able to access error code that stored in Engine ECU, If you were looking forward to diagnose other parts of the car you need a more professional tool. Overall this handy tool has been worthen every penny I spent on it. Pretty happy with this purchase

Sturdy and functional
Works great and for multiple car makes / models. Used in three cars so far without issue. User friendliness isn’t great as your experience will vary greatly depending on what app you use. I’m cheap and didn’t want to buy a real app but I’ve managed to find one that worked for my needs. Every app I tried (that said it could use random car scanners) worked with this adapter. It did suck loosing data when using WiFi but this is a great use for an older phone if you have one laying around. I have been pretty rough on this thing and it’s still working without issue. It just rolls around my car until I need it.

A GREAT Start for a Product!
When I got this, I was prepared to be disappointed due to previous reviews. But for THAT PRICE? It was easy to take a chance. It popped right in, and after I fumbled around a while, I finally read the instructions. That did it - everything came up clean and green! It took a while to get used to the app's finicky ways, but soon had the display the way I liked it and I haven't looked back. It presents all the info I am interested in on a customizable screen. pick and choose from MANY options, most of which I could care less about. It clears codes with a very clear warning what could go horribly wrong and then does it without a peep.A VERY cool unit at a VERY cool price. Just be prepared for finicky.

Works just as advertised
Works extremely well. So far I have not had any disconnections from Wifi.Just make sure you have strong wifi and then once you connect to your car's ODBII port make sure you iPhone / Android shows the ELM327 wifi connection and connect to it. Then get your car diagnostic app (I use Car Scanner app on iPhone) going and connect it in and you should be golden.

Plug and Play
I really like this product, I tried it on both my cars in combination with an iPad. connecting via wifi is easy and the OBD scanner recognized my cars within seconds. It is just a matter of finding good OBD software in the AppStore to use with this OBD Scanner. I tried several Apps and they all worked with this scanner. I have even found a MacOS app to use on my MacBook.

Did not establish link with vehicle
Would not connect with vehicle. Other scanners do. Failed to work on 97 Chev K1500, 3.0 which is fully OBDII compatible. I suspect unit was faulty. Company offered to replace, so I rated at a 3, but cost and time not worth it to me to return and try another. I bought a different replacement.

As described and works now
No instructions are included with the device. I plugged it into the car and started the car. It fails to connect to my iphone 5s via bluetooth and there are no instructions to refer to.Update: I have got this working now via wi fi on my iphone, it's fine. The software I was using was the wrong software from the app store and it was trying to connect via bluetooth with no wi fi option. I am now using OBD 2 Fusion and it cost £9.99.Only 4 stars because it prematurely disconnects sometimes but that is not a big issue to me as long as it stays connected long enough to check error codes. I'm not really going to play with it or use whilst driving, I can't close my glove box withi in anyway.

Worth every penny
Great item, diagnosed a fault with my sisters car which BMW couldnt diagnose. Good to see how the car is performing in use (live data). Do not leave plugged in after use as it will continue to draw power after you have turned your car off.

just plug and play
despite some negative reviews, mine worked straight out of the packet. Used with iPhone 6s1. download your preferred app from the App Store. I used 'carscanner'2. Plug the scanner into the OBD socket [should be situated between the steering wheel and the pedals on newish cars]3. turn ignition to 'on' [don't crank the engine]4. On iPhone, connect to the wifi network which the scanner is now broadcasting5. Once connected load your preferred scanner app and you are way!If all goes well, this will take around 3-4 minutes
