My all-time favorite dystopian novel
My all-time favorite dystopian novel. I've read it many times, recommended it to friends and hated when it was out of print for a long time. I purchased this book as a gift. My only complaint is that the editors of this newer edition felt obligated to make the writing more accessible and in doing so, took away some of its literary strength. For example, they note in the chapter where the hero leaves the protected area for the wilds of the untamed Ancients, that they speak in the language of the older ones, using a Latin vernacular. So instead of hearing the hero being addressed as "thou", we simply hear "you". Hearing the old language is a key part of his getting the feel of this previously undiscovered place where such alien concepts as love, jealousy and passion still exist. hen he hears her say, "Thou loveth fog, dost thou?", the reader experiences the chill that the hero feels as he begins his journey away from safe and sterile. It's a beautiful story- as written. Dumbing it down, even if it seems like helpful edits, takes away from the novel.

A must read for dystopian lovers.
This book is amazing. It's a keystone dystopian book and inspired the writers of 1984 and A Brave New World. You've likely seen these themes before but this is the book that did it first. It's not long so you can finish it in a day or two. It's an excellent addition to any bookshelf.

Great book, one of my favorites
This book is one of my favorites. The cover and print of this edition are perfect. I ordered this used / Like New, but the cover got bent in transit. For the use price, it wasn't worth fighting for a return/refund/replacement.

You've read 1984? And Brave New World?
This book written shortly after the Russian Revolution, when Stalin was in power, is very frightening! It was considered Science Fiction!People lived in transparent houses and were not allowed to dream.

Great
I highly enjoyed the book. At first it takes time to get used to the writing, but its not incredibly difficult. However, I don't know if i just missed the description somewhere or something, but it is bigger than a classic sized book, and the font is slightly bigger than normal as well.

Great book. Bad printing/publishing
So this book is FANTASTIC. 5 stars there. It's essentially the book that pioneered futuristic dystopian society themes that eventually lead to Orwell's 1984 and Huxley's A Brave New World... If you like those books, you have to read this book. Uber CLASSIC.HOWEVER, this actual printing is terrible. It's as if this person went to Kinko's with a ripped off version of this book and printed it themselves to sell on Amazon. Pretty lame. Pretty lame, I tell you.

DO NOT BUY
This is not a book. It is a poor A4 print-out copy of a book. Terrible quality and misleading description. You can get a proper paperback copy of this elsewhere for the same price or cheaper.

Not your average summer read
A most interesting, but not entertaining read about what life might be like in a couple of hundred years. And while not probable it is entirely possible. This book by a Russian author predates Orwell's 1984, but brings it to a to an even worse conclusion. At this time of our manipulation by social media, it is ever more import to keep personal surveillance under control and vigorously defend democratic principles and personal freedom.
