I ran across gardening knives on Amazon, and immediately knew it was a product I needed. I did a lot of my usual obsessive research before making a choice. I wanted a stainless steel knife over carbon steel, so I didn't have to worry about keeping it totally clean after each use. I needed a blade of moderate length, and preferred a sturdy leather sheath over a nylon one.I also needed to be certain the knife wasn't one of the low quality versions I had read about, that rust rapidly and have flimsy blades that are crudely bent to fit into the handle.This knife fit all my requirements, at $10 less than the competing choices! Party. I certainly didn't think I would find a leather sheath for that price point. Given the low price and few reviews, I was apprehensive about the quality. But the warranty was great, and I figured if the knife arrived and seemed to have poor quality, I could just send it right back.Well, upon removing it from the package, I immediately knew it was a keeper. The steel blade is sturdy, the serrated edge perfectly sharp. The wood handle is smooth, nicely finished, with secure rivets.I don't do much in the garden without my knife. It's perfect for digging out tough weeds, especially the terrible thistle infestation that has dominated my summer. I refuse to use herbicides, and this knife makes manual removal so much more efficient.I also use it for transplanting small perennials, cutting sod from where it doesn't belong, and hand-trimming grass in difficult to reach areas. My knife is wonderful for harvesting veggies with thick stems, like cucumbers and peppers.I've used it roughly for several weeks now, and I admit I don't always keep it clean after use. I've had no problems with rust, chips, bends, or any kind of problem at all. I would say my only issue with this knife is that I can't garden without it.

The knife was delivered in the middle of winter, I remember wondering if it would be one more garden tool that I used infrequently. It's spring now and I've used the hori hori knife almost exclusively for spring cleanup in the garden beds. It's the best tool for removing dandelions, the blade is sufficiently long to remove all of the tap root. Both sides of the blade are sharp, I use the serrated side to break up clumps of soil. Planting bulbs is a breeze. I didn't think I would use the leather holder, but the hori hori knife blade is sharp, the holder could prevent an accident. This knife is one of my all-time favorite Amazon purchases.

I'm an avid gardener and grow a variety of flowers, vegetables, herbs, shrubs, and evergreens. I'm used to rotating between a variety of tools to care for my plants, which can be tedious, but I'm meticulous with my care of them. I was really impressed with the versatility of the Hori Hori knife! It combines the jobs of several tools and saves me a lot of time.It works well for digging and can easily do what a garden trowel does and more. The sharp point makes it easy to dig through rocky/clay soil and the sides of the blade cut through roots. Since the blade has a serrated side and a smooth, sharp side you can use different types of cuts as needed. The blade has measurements, which is fabulous for planting seedlings or quickly measuring when required.The Hori Hori knife works pretty well for pruning. It's great for trimming back suckers and pruning small branches. With slightly thicker branches, you definitely want to use loppers or pruning shears because I couldn't get a clean cut with the knife and was afraid I'd damage the plant.Overall, I'm extremely happy with this Hori Hori knife. It saves me a lot of time with planting and plant maintenance because it can do the job of many tools. It's also beautiful and comes with a nice leather case. The blade cleans easily and cleanly. I do a lot of gardening and carry several tools with me to do the work I need to do. Now that I have the Hori Hori knife I carry just this knife in place of a knife and a spade to dig with. This knife came in very handy when I planted my bushes which need to be planted a specific depth. With the measurements on the blade this was a breeze. The serrated edge really helps to cut through roots as well as take out sticker bushes and other weeds that try to take over my garden. I also love the sheath that I attach to my belt so I can keep my knife at my side at all time. The handle is sturdy and well made. The best weeding tool I have used. It's a shame I did not discover this tool years ago. Great for pulling weeds in a bed covered with 2-4" mountain cobble. Pushes the rocks aside as you plunge in after that weed. Make sure you grasp the handle firmly. I have cut my hand twice this year digging plants out. Cuts roots and twigs with ease. It is the most popular tool amongst the crew. I am not a fan of the toy store sheath though. Buy the tool forget about the sheath.

This is a wonderful garden product it is so versatile and extremly well made. I use it for a variety of tasks anywhere from digging holes to plant flowers to digging up good size shrubs and bushes. The ruler on the hori hori makes it really easy to measure the depth you are planting. I also really love the serrated edge it makes cutting through roots, even fairly thick ones, quite easy. Its very well made and sturdy and comes in a nice leather sheath that could be hung from a belt.I recieved this product at a reduced price or free in exchange for my honest, fair and unbiased review.

I bought this in the winter and wanted to wait until I used it before reviewing it. But now that I have... this is the most useful piece of gardening equipment I've ever had in my hands! It can do so much and has replaced three or four different hand tools and it's not even March 1st! It's sturdy, the right size, easy to store and acts as both a metric and standard ruler to ensure proper planting depth. For the price, you cannot purchase a better hand-held tool.
