Franciscan Spirituality
Delio is a theologian and the writing in this book reflects her intellectual approach to Franciscan spirituality. Expecting the book to be more "spiritual", I was, at first, a little disappointed. My attitude changed as the book marched through the "Ten Evenings".I would recommend this book to anyone who is seeking to develop their spiritual life further. It needs to be read and reflected upon over a consecutively period. Some might want to do it over ten days, but it should not be rushed through. Her reflection questions at the end of each chapter offer the reader plenty of opportunity to look at their own life honestly. That is actually the gift of this book.

It truly is ten evenings with God.
This is a 5 star book in that it touches your heart. It opens up a new concept of God as love. She is an excellent writer and takes you through the ten evenings or steps. After ten evening. You realize you have gone off the patch to loving God.

Love is all.
Morning, noon or evening Ilia invites us home to the heart and soul where God awaits. What better company, what better guide than one who speaks from her center. A private retreat for one who yearns for more.

A must buy
One of the best books I have read and reflected upon in recent months. It is easy to use for a retreat, even without a spiritual director. And it gives me a deeper insight into the heart of St Francis

10 Evenings with God, Sr. Ilia
Everybody remembers that old Bible story about Jonah. Getting eaten by a whale and living to tell about it is something that fascinates us all. But do you remember how Jonah came to that experience in the first place? He tried to run away from God... which, if you're a true believing Christian, you know makes getting eaten by a whale trivial by comparison. But, for some odd reason, we all give it a go once in a while, don't we?Last winter my Catholic small faith community went through this book by Sr. Ilia Delio reading it aloud word by word and discussing each paragraph and what it meant after it was read. This little book by Sr. Ilia, a Roman Catholic nun, is mostly about running away from God, and how we do it, and why we do it, and what we know in our hearts we should do instead. If you think this book has nothing to say to you because you don't try to run away from Him, you'll probably be surprised when reading it to find out you do also - yes, even you - didn't the apostles?I didn't like this book. I didn't like the style in which it was written. I didn't like the way Sr. Ilia constructed her sentences and chose her words. I didn't like her presumptions. I didn't like it when Sr. Ilia's little book made me look inside myself and see things I didn't want to look at. I saw that I sometimes ran away from myself and in doing so was running away from the one who also dwells within us in our souls... God in the personhood of the Holy Spirit. Where else does He get any closer to us than that?Sr. Ilia's little book is worth reading a second time, like I did, even though I didn't like it. I'm a better person for it. You will be too if you read it and think about what it says. It's not hard to read, but it's sometimes hard to understand when you're unwilling to face some of the flaws in yourself that make you want to run away from, not to, God. The book about Job is our own story as well.

Clear, concise, convincing
Ilia does a great job explaining what the will of God is and how best to live it.This is a refreshing, challenging exposition of the will of God--God's invitation to love--and our response to it so that we grow in true freedom.Well worth the read--a slow read, with time to savor the words, meditate on them and let them sink in.
