I played clarinet from junior high through college and beyond. Recently I've been playing for fun with friends in outdoor, socially-distant settings and wanted an instrument that could stand up to being played in cold, hot, humid, or dry conditions. My main clarinet is a wooden Selmer Series 10 and not intended for outdoor use. The Lazarro arrived quickly. Each piece of the instrument was individually wrapped in plastic. It came with all the accessories-an abundance of reeds, some cork grease, an impressively good swab. I greased all of the corks liberally prior to assembling the clarinet for the first time, and except for the bell, it seemed to go together without too much force. The sound was really nice-clear and bright and full. For the most part, playing was smooth except for a couple of keys that seem to stick. Despite this being pretty OK for an $80 clarinet, I have an issue with the fact that it became clearly evident that this is a used instrument. The dead giveaway was the child's name on the back of the case, written in red puffy-paint with a cute little heart next to it. So Tylar, whoever you are, thanks for the clarinet. But I'll be returning this-as I wasn't aware when I purchased this that it was used. One star because I think these are probably pretty decent instruments and good for students or people wanting to learn but not wanting to spend hundreds, or thousands of dollars on a nicer clarinet.
