This kit is pretty good... it's got all the parts necessary to start building electronics projects, and the book is fantastic. The only drawback is the packaging of the individual components. Each set of components is in a small paper envelope with the name, a picture, the symbol, and in some cases additional information like resistance... that's fantastic, but the envelopes come sealed. So if your son/daughter is excited to get going, they'll rip them open and won't be usable again for re-storage.

It had a good amount of pieces in it, but some of the items in there are a little flimsy. I ended up breaking the timer that came with it because I could not get it to fit for the life of me, but everything else seemed to work fine. I'd recommend using tweezers when working with this. Great for beginners but I would not recommend it for anything else

We bought this kit for my eleven and half year old son. The kit is extremely fiddly. There are no where near enough connecting wires to do the experiments they describe. The base board is not well put together and bits on the bottom fall off as you try to insert components on the top. BUT MOST WORRYINGLY, I and my son BURNT our fingers on components that had overheated on the board. I dont know if this was because of elements falling out of the position on the base and causing a short, but BE VERY CAREFUL. This product is PROBABLY BEST AVOIDED. It is not easy to use and its not clear how and why stuff works. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Ordered for school - came as expected! It's exactly as pictured and works as it should. Not much else to say!

As a hobbyist, I found this kit to be very helpful for learning and experimenting with the basics. The whole design is friendly and unintimidating, and the projects are designed so you can easily see (or hear) things working. For example, one of the circuits has an LED that turns on when it's dark. How dark does it have to be? You can manipulate it to some extent with a knob, and the booklet has a brief explanation about how it works. It helps you read some circuit diagrams and build a little bit of confidence. It's also good if you want to learn a little bit and don't want to spend a lot of time getting something cool to work.It explains the basic concepts about resistors, capacitors, transistors, and so forth, and it is not bogged down by unnecessary details or technical babble. This is both a strength and a weakness. It's great as Step 1, but you will need another resource to go to Step 2 and beyond. The components are still useful to have around for experimentation, but those by themselves and the accompanying booklet isn't going to take you there. It is also not idiot-proof. You're not going to electrocute yourself with a 9v battery, but you can burn components. The biggest problem is the fact that, even though it gives a circuit diagram, when you actually wire things up you're mainly trying to match the illustration of the breadboard. Being a beginner and all, you don't really understand the big picture yet. Because the booklet keeps it simple, it has a limited ability to help you understand exactly how the diagram and illustration go together to diagnose a mistake you've made in your own circuit.Overall I felt this is a worthwhile purchase for someone who wants to have a little fun starting out and is encouraged by the ability to make a functional circuit in short order. It is only Step 1, but that is all it is trying to be. I found it to be very helpful to me.

Very good learning tool for beginners, teaches you alot of the basics for each indivudal part.
