Characters are bigger then life and their adventure is fantastic.

Wilbur Smith at his Best!
A great story in the Egypt series and a fun summer read. Be sure to read them in order starting with River God. Wilbur Smith is a master storyteller and a joy to read. Not as well known in the US but one of my top five authors of fiction in the world. Warlock does not disappoint!

Wilbur Smith's Warlock
I have read almost every Wilbur Smith novel and some several times. He is by far one of the BEST non-fiction historical writers I have had the privilege to read. I was fortunate to be able to find hard copies of River God which I plan to re-read. Warlock was very good - not quite as exciting as River God...but for goodness sakes how can a person keep up that degree of intensity? The only Wilbur Smith book that has disappointed is the Quest but I am very happy to have read and completed the Egyptian series despite the lack of eBooks for the first two of the series. Anyone who has completed just one of Wilbur Smith's books will return to the next without hesitation. Thank you for many hours of entertainment and education!

Yet another great story from Wilbur Smith
I am a great fan of Wilbur Smith and hate to finish one of his books. I don't want to run out of novels by this extraordinary writer. Warlock is no exception. Unlike some other W. Smith fans I can enjoy the magical elements of the story, which are nothing like Harry Potter stories, but do contain more "magic" than one will find in the Courtney family series. The Egyptian setting lets one accept spells and charms affecting the lives of the protagonists. Fortunately Smith's deft touch doesn't overdue the magic.

The Audio quality of these tapes is unacceptable
I am a big fan of Wilbur smith. He is a master of the historical novel. The audio cassette editions of his books, manufactured by Billiance audito, however are so poor in their quality as to be unusable and annoying to the listener.Brilliance audio's technical reproduction of books is the poorest quality of any that I have purchased- I'm an avid user of books on tape.I purchased this book to listen to on a cross country drive. The uneven audio necessitated a constant adjustment of the volume level. At moments the audio was so low that it was virtually unintelligible. If you increase the volume another portion would be so loud as to be painful (usually spoken segments by characters). This requisite constant adjustments in volume made this excellent story a real pain to listen to.I thought that this might just have been an anomaly with this one particular tape. I purchased another unabridged novel "River God" also by Wilbur Smith and manufactured by brilliance audio - it was the same.I was so angry after investing a significant sum to purchase these tapes that I called the manufacturer, Brilliance audio's national customer service manager. She apologized and shipped me a replacement book on tape that she assured me had good production quality. I was shocked to find it the same as the previous books. My car stereo is manufactured by Bose and is high end.The same problem exists when attempting to play these tapes on a sony walkman cassette player. My conclusion is that Brilliance audio has no quality control or is using a cheaper tape or reproduction method than all of the other audio tape manufacurers.I wish Wilbur Smith had hired Jim Dale the reader of the Harry Potter books and had his novels recorded at another studio because those books are performed and reproduced magnificently. The audio renditions of both Warlock and River God, however, are simply poor quality and not worth their cost and unless you don't mind adjusting the volume continuously as you listen - don't buy them.

"Warlock"
Mr. Smith has done it again! The descriptions written and references used allows the imagination to picture the times and surroundings of an ancient civilization. The only thing missing was actually being there! From the beginning, it's another story that won't let you go and you're constantly anticipating the next twist and turn he (Smith) will take you.Well worth the money and reading time! Each of these (Egyptian series) have enough character and story material to make an epic movie or cable television drama.Have already ordered and received his next installment--"The Quest" which I'm sure will allow me to enter my time machine allowing me once more to share in the adventures of Taita, so many thousands of years ago.Thank you, Wilbur Smith!
