Excellent Read for the Hearing-Impaired
Nothing to dislike. I read in two days. Could not put it down. The author presented very factual information in a great way and with humor. Helped me with making an informed decision. I already loaned to another hearing-impaired friend and will read again myself when it is returned.

Fascinating and entertaining
I really enjoyed this book. It gives a great overview of topics related to hearing with dozens of interesting anecdotes and a charming relaxed tone.

Engaging book, great index
I found this book to be well researched and engaging. I like the spectrum of hearing-related topics he covered. Sometimes I wish he went more into depth about certain topics and left out some of the anecdotes. (I still found myself having to do more research on my own about noise-cancellation tech, problems with the occulusion effect for people who frequently wear ear plugs (and not hearing aids), etc.) However this book introduced new topics to me other than the ones I was faimilar with, like tinnitus. I especially like that the index of this book is VERY detailed -- even the names of a brand's ear protection or headphones are indexed -- not just the brand itself.

Good reading for anyone
It's not just for people with hearing loss although I do have hearing loss. It was just a good book on hearing in general and about the hearing aid industry and about devises to improve hearing.. The interesting part for me was the FDA's support of the industry and how it diminishes efforts of other companies like Bose from competing on a level field. Another point stressed in the book was that the hearing aid manufacturers consider their customers to be the audiologists not the general public.. So, the industry & FDA kinda seem corrupt by not representing the general public. It kinda stinks. Other interesting things include new devices and the potential for future breakthroughs that will benefit the general public.

Protect your ears, read this book!
Great book on hearing...past, present and possible future. A colloquial style at times, along with real science mixed in. We actually did this as a school (teacher) book study and all enjoyed it. The personal stories make the book.

Fantastic Read!
Fantastic read! David Owen is insightful, thorough, engaging and very funny. I have tinnitus and hearing loss in my left ear so I expected to be educated but didn’t expect to be so entertained . I was ready to purchase a hearing aid but with this book I learned there were other options out there far more affordable and work better than hearing aids. Thanks David Owen for educating, entertaining and saving me a few thousand dollars.
