These HMEs help provide protection to the exposed airway of the tracheostomy patient. The low resistance to flow and high-moisture output helps minimize the loss of heat and moisture and helps provide comfort to the ventilated or spontaneously breathing patient. Model T is recommended for the spontaneously breathing, tracheostomized patient.
