Thirsty?
This is a good, thorough look at water. It contains a lot of good ideas and information. Water is a MUST so, make sure you have it or a source readily available.

It begins with a great introduction, explaining the importance of water and why ...
I bought this book as part of a gift of two books about water harvesting and storage for prepper’s, for my father. My dad loves reading prepper’s guides and information. I picked this one for him because it targeted something he was really interested in: water. This book has so much information. It begins with a great introduction, explaining the importance of water and why we need to be so careful with it. The book contains information about why everyone needs to have an idea of a safe water supply, including non-preppers. It provides incidences in which safe water was scarce for a time. It convinced me to continue reading the book, even as a non-prepper myself! It outlines ways of storing water safely (did you know milk jugs are not a good option?) as well as harvesting the water. Most interesting to me were the chapters on purifying water and finding emergency sources of water. I found it completely fascinating and I learned so much! I highly recommend this book to anyone, especially if they are preppers or if they just find water information such as this interesting. I thought it was so useful and I feel a little better knowing about how to collect, store, and purify water!

a must read for any prepper
This book is a wonderful guide and helping you to store water for emergencies. And as a mother of children, it is very important to have water.

solid guide to water and how to deal with it
This was a fairly small, easy-to-read guide to everything you'd need to know about water (and its uses) in both regular and challenging times. This includes details on why it's crucial, how to conserve it, how to filter it but also other related things like how to build a latrine, how to deal with different kinds of waste and trash if there's no water or garbage service, etc. This is a good handbook to reference both before and during emergencies.

Do you at least have a plan for the best-case scenario?
I thought this book was well written and comprehensive. It have facts and reasons and did not fill the reader with fear, but with truth and a game plan. It's not a crazy thing to plan for disaster. Not even an apocalypse, but the chance that over the course of one's life, there could be a problem with having access to clean water. I already keep two gallons of water on hand, but I need to do plan for at least a gallon a day for at least two weeks. Luther shows the reader how to accomplish this without breaking the bank. The biggest thing I took from Luther's book is to be prepared as use any resource availabe accordingly. Drinking water is obviously a big deal, buthe without water on hand for washing and sanitizing, a variety of issues can still arise, including death. Not to end on a down note, there are things in this book anyone can use daily. If you travel, make sure you have plenty of water on hand (should be obvious, but...) and one can make their own homemade electrolyte drink in a pinch! No need for Gatorade when most people already have the proper ingredients in their home!

Helpful but not a "prepper's" guide
There is a fair amount of information and some of it rather important. Overall it was good but I could not rate it higher as it did not address a social collapse scenario which is what I have been preparing for. This is a more than 3 day or even 2 week event. This book addresses water filtration from the view of a hike in the woods and filtering water from a stream to commercial home filtration systems which are fine if you have a stockpile of commercially made filters for your system. I was looking for information on creating a backup filtration system along the lines of activated charcoal, sand and pebbles. I am on well water and live near a small river. If there is no power I need to manually access water from these two sources and filter it. After reading this book I went on line and found more information on homemade filters than offered here. The book is helpful, just not as encompassing as it could be.

Water is our most important need
This is an excellent book. First, water is the most important thing to worry about. The rule of 3 for survival is: 3 minutes without air, 3 days without water and 3 weeks without food. The most likely shortage you will face in an emergency is water. Contaminated water is one of the most dangerous ways that disease such as cholera is transmitted. This book goes through various filtering and purification techniques. It points out the important supply of water that most people don't even think about....their hot water heater. The book is written from the point of view of individual preparation. However, if we as a nation suffer something like an EMP attack or bio-terror attack, we will have to react as a community and nation as well. Digging a latrine in an area of high rise apartments isn't a plan. My book, "One Second After...in San Diego" (fictional) addresses the reaction of the 3 million people in San Diego County led by the military. As Daisy Luther points out, we use much more water for sanitation purposes than the 1 gallon a day for drinking. In my book, the sanitation problem is solved by using saltwater and untreated water from the reservoirs. The drinking water is from hot water heater tanks and filtering water with simple backpacking filters. Water may be our most important need, but humans are our most important resources....when they work as a team.
