Review: Great books! - Started buying the books in this series a couple of years ago for my 8 year old granddaughter and she just turned 10 and she still loves reading them. Great books. Review: Um - How this book got so many good reviews is beyond me. I decided to read this book after reading the Deluxe version (it was so funny) and it just disappointed me how this can be so bad when the others were so good. Early in the book, Jamie (the twelve year old narrator)'s grandma dies. While she does't write in her diary for days because she is "sad" clearly she isn't because she tries to make a joke out of the whole thing. For example, at the funeral, Jamie is crying in the bathroom, and she says, and I quote, "I was crying, and then I checked myself in the mirror to see if I was crying prettily because its important, and then I went back to normal crying because I didn't want mom to get mad." How insensitive! But everything else was fine.
