Live plants have many agricultural uses, such as removing waste and excess nutrients from hydroponic systems, fighting algae and bacterial growth in farm ponds, and keeping educational aquariums clean. Glossostigma elatinoides, sometimes called by the common name Glosso, is a dense and vibrant green carpeting plant that looks particularly excellent in the foregound of any planted aquarium. It can also look great as a background or midground plant, but it is rather low to the ground and thus can be overshadowed if you have larger plants. This charming little plant features tiny, oval-shaped leaves that grow upwards, making the plant very perky in appearance. Our Glossostigma will ship to you in a pot with stems and leaves at about 1 to 2 inches in length. The plant is most often taken out of the pot and planted in the substrate so that it can grow outward, as carpeting plants do. Glossostigma is a moderately hardy plant that needs fairly high-intensity lighting in order to grow densely and to maintain its bright green color. Additionally, this plant is considered more difficult to grow than most of our other plants, so it may not be ideal for beginning live plant enthusiasts.
