once in place leave it there
This is the second one I had to buy. Reason is I have found it is not meant for the taking out and putting back in all the time. My car went into the shop in the last 4 months. I had to keep coming back because parts where not always in and had to be installed at different times. I had loaner cars. so I remove it from my car and clip it into the loaner and vice versa about the 45th time and yes I am not exaggerating It cracked where it clips the metal part was fine but the plastic part that opens the clamp cracked and cant reopen the clamp. charger still works so I keep it in my car so when I have another vehicle this s the one I place in the cup holder and use for charging my car and the second one stays on the vent so no issues.

Awesome gadget, just wish they made a bigger one!
Update: just 16 days of ownership in a car I deive maybe once every 2-3 days, and the unit is now making a concerning "clicking" sound any time it opens or closes, as if it's already having motor problems with the mechanism itself... this is way too early for it to be having this kind of problem and I'm worried it may now fail prematurely, possibly validating my concerns that it is not a large enough unit for my phone, which is a Pixel 4XL with a (very slim) phone case on it. I even bought a slimmer case than the bulkier case I had before just to try to accommodate this phone holder...Fresh out of the box installation was pretty simple, even though I didn't see anything that appeared to be an instruction manual box it's pretty straightforward, clip it on two event, adjust as needed, plug it in.Put my car into accessory mode so it would have power, it sensed motion near the front of it and opened up, put the phone in place and it closes down on the phone, pressing on the back of it releases the phone allowing you to take it back out.Wireless charging would not work while I had a metal plate on the back of my phone still, removed the metal plate which I was using with magnetic mounts before and wireless charging worked just fine as well.It holds the phone in place pretty snug and securely, as long as you have a very very thin phone case or no phone case at all; the one that I normally use is quite large and bulky with enlarged rubberized edges all around the phone as I tend to drop my phone a lot, with that case on it was not really getting a good grip on the phone itself, I had to remove my phone's protective case in order to get this to fit snugly into the mount... If they made an extra large version of this to accommodate people who use larger phone cases, like OtterBox or equivalent, I would definitely prefer that!I am not sure if I am going to keep this because I either need to get a different phone case or have no phone case on my phone for the mount to get a good grip on the phone itself...

The good, the bad and the ugly!
It's been a few weeks since I've received this item. It works very well up until now but first, the review. The good, my package came with the charger, USB C cable and the cigarette lighter adapter. Some of the reviews said they didn't receive the cigarette adapter but mine came with it. The charger is made with kind of cheap plastic but still feels sturdy. As for installation, it only mounts to the air vents in your car. The only air vents that would work is the ones with the horizontal flaps, none of those fancy circular vents or whatever other designs that are out there. The downside is that it'll weigh down the air vent and you can't use that air vent. It might also block some controls in your vehicle. For me, it blocks some of the climate control buttons. So be mindful of where you plan to install it and what it'll block once it's installed.Operation is simple, once there's power to the charger. There's two led lights at the bottom of the charger. If there's power the leds are blue. Put your phone in front of the charger and it'll open up. Place it on the little ledge of the charger and wait a second or two and the arms will close. When its charging, the led turns green. To remove it from the charger, just touch the top of the backside of the charger and it'll open up the arms. Becareful when opening it, depending on how you have it installed, it might just fall out. Some people asked about access to the headphone jack... that all depends on your phone. My Samsung S10+ has the headphone jack on the bottom right of my phone and yes, it'll get blocked. I usually use Bluetooth so it doesn't bother me. If your headphone jack is on top of your phone then you're ok. For people with iPhone that uses the lightning cable, there's room at the bottom to put the lightning cable adapter for your headphones. Now for the bad... the past two days, the arms started acting weird and finally it'll either stick closed or stick open. I had to take it apart and it was such a pain. The screws are all hidden. The front where the phone charges from hides eight screws. Becareful removing the glass, I got too impatient and cracked the glass, the ugly. The glass is stuck on with 2-sided tape. No need to use heat to remove like changing the glass on smart phones. Once the glass is removed, there's eight screws holding the front part of the charger. Once that's removed, remove the charging coil, there's two screws under the coil as well as four other screws, a total of six screws to remove the plastic holding down the motor, gears and the arms. I made sure the gears and arms are set correctly and lube the gears with a bit of lithium grease. I didnt spray into the charger, just applied a little bit with a Q-Tip. All the gears are made out of plastic, just in case you're wondering.Let's see how long that'll last before it starts acting up again. I'll update this review if there are any changes.Hope this review helps.

Has to be plugged into the car outlet to work
This overall is a great phone holder since it's motion censored & charges your phone quite well & fast even through your phone case. The only thing I didn't realize about it when I opened the box was it has to be plugged into the outlet of the car for it to charge your phone & censor.
