Doggie Dooley Model 3800X

We have two large dogs, so the idea of not having to carry out heavy bags of poop was very appealing. After using this for about six weeks, I can honestly say it’s been a great solution for us. It works well and has made cleanup much easier overall. The opening could be a little bigger when adding waste, but it hasn’t been a major issue for us. Be prepared to dig a pretty deep hole for installation. Also, with two large dogs, ours is starting to fill up, and the tablets included don’t seem to break everything down fast enough. I’ll likely look into other options to help speed up the process. It is very lightweight and the lid is durable. It helps with odor a lot! It makes clean up so easy i pick up two times a day now! One thing I do like is that it’s not a permanent setup. You can move it if needed, which is helpful. I also wish the lid came in more color options, but that’s a small detail. Overall, we’re very happy with the purchase and it’s been a big improvement for managing dog waste.

I thought I'd stop by and share my thoughts with you on this thing. I bought it in March which is still frozen ground here in Michigan - today is 98 degrees, yesterday it was a record breaking 100, and it's days like this that I bought it. Before I would have little other options but to put the stuff in the trash bin, and needless to say on the hot days you'd smell it for a 100' away, if not more. It disgusted me!! I had to do something before I called the authorities on myself. Today?? I fell a day, maybe two behind on cleaning up the back yard for 1 golden retriever and 1 Newfoundland. Over to the doggie dooley it went and WOW!! I didn't get knocked over in rank smellings!! This thing is the best working item for something I never knew existed! My recommendation is 100% go buy this thing if you appreciate a solution for what I described. I didn't stick my head into the hole for testing, but both me and my wife commented on how glad we are to have this set up. It comes with a starter pack of the necessary additives, and I should definitely head over and give them a high five as well! Best solution to a long problem that I've discovered in years! Oh, and one last point, I'm no affiliate or paid review guy.. just a guy that wanted to show some consideration for anyone within striking distance to my trash can (Before)

As other reviews state, the ease of use, cleaning, and size are really good. However, the sturdiness, the stability, and the inability to use bags causes some draw backs. Living in Phoenix, AZ most of the soil is a clay based with something called Caliche, or calcium carbonate mixed with clay. This it was very frustrating to dig in, and required some extra steps to make sure that this system would work. Also after digging the hole for the actual assembly was hard enough, then the directions stated to dig another 36"/3' deeper. This was extremely frustrating and ultimately led me to take multiple days to just dig the hole. I have six dogs, as such just one was inadequate, I did ultimately but this one and two of the metal ones, (which I found offered a little better in product strength). The product itself is made from very thin and flimsy plastic which the lid is off the same caliber. The hinge and mechanism is also sub-par. Somethings to think about before buying this: Where do I plan to put this? Can I actually dig the hole deep. enough? What type of soil do I have? Do I plan to maintain this according to the directions? If you answered no, or the soil that you have is not compatible, I wouldn't recommend this for you. As you read above, I did end up buying this and two other to satisfy the amount of dog dung that's produced on a daily basis. I'm happy with the outcome, but it is another added chore that I have to add only certain amounts of feces, add a gallon of water to each canister, and do that on a daily basis to prevent issues/odors with each system. My main take away is 1 don't waste my money on the additives you see listed on the other items section, and two the stability of the device made me place these systems easy away from pathways and potential areas that will cause the system to collapse.

I had an older model dog dooley in the form of a large plastic pyramid open at the bottom that you buried in a large hole in the ground. This served me well for over 20 years, but the plastic lid at the top eventually broke from usage and fatigue, though the underground structure is still working to this day. This new model is made of steel, and is closed at the bottom. It is installed by digging a deep and narrow 48"x14" hole in the ground. I made the hole too wide, and had to use small rebar bars at the top to make it fill, and then filled the too-wide mouth of the hole with gravel. I could have dug another hole, but the initial hole was hard to dig because of roots, so decided to improvise. Make sure that the hole is narrow. Once the digester is installed, it is very easy to operate. You need to add water periodically, which overflows from the inside into the deeper hole. The opening of the digester of the digester is wide enough that the matter inside can be easily turned periodically. This helps breakdown clumps in the matter, spread the enzymes, and add oxygen. Eventually, I presume that the hole in which the digester is installed may become full, and may have to be emptied or a new hole dug, but that will probably take years. Overally if you are interested in an ecological way to digest your pet waste that does not involve plastic bags and throwing poop in your trash, I highly recommend this system. It is well designed, well built and very practical. It does take a little work to install, and light periodic maintenance.

This is one of the most exciting products I've heard about. I have been wanting to get rid of my garbage service for a while now, compost most everything and have very little waste. Well, dog poo was a large portion of our garbage, as we have two labs. Throwing it at the back of the yard to decompose naturally was not an option. My wife told me about a septic system specifically made for dog poo that she had heard about. I was like "Seriously?! Awesome!!" So, a quick search on Amazon brought me to this item. I had no hesitation in ordering this item based on reviews and the whole concept. I'ts been up and running for about two weeks. I use two tablets per week and seems to be working just fine. Not sure if the powder is any better. At this point I would say buy it! Notes: They say to dig a four foot hole, and that's it. They don't say to fill it with anything. I can't imagine the plastic cover being able to support over forty pounds. I decided to fill the hole with drain rock until this item sits on top of the rock and is flush with the ground. How it works: You buy it, bury it, fill it with water, throw a couple tablets in to get the bacteria started. Then throw a day or two worth of poo in, but no more, you don't want to overload the system. Each day you pour a gallon of WARM water in to "flush" the system. This stirs everything up, raises the water level, and empties waste into the four foot hole you dug. Then scoop daily poo into this unit. Is this smelly? Yes and no. When it's closed for the day you don't smell it, but when you open it to make a deposit, yes it's very smelly! Overall this won't stink up the whole neighborhood. Might not be best put in a place of direct sunlight for most the day as the sun will break down the plastic very fast. I believe the fact that the bacteria doesn't work well below 40 degrees, I don't work well under 40!! Highly recommended!!

It was months before I figured out a way to dig a hole deep enough. We attempted to dig it with a shovel and post digger. We also had a landscaper attempt to dig the hole in three different spots with an awl with no success. He gave up. Installing this requires digging a 64" deep hole... which you don't really understand how deep that is until you try to do it. This is much deeper than ANY post hole you'd need to dig and soil gets rockier and harder to dig the deeper you dig (at least, that's been my experience). The larger width hole isn't bad, but then you're stuck trying to dig a very thin hole for 48". Again... this is really quite deep. And unlike the larger area, you can't get leverage to lift the rocks up. You don't want to dig the thin hole wider to get rocks out because then it won't support the Dooley as well. If you want this product, I highly recommend digging the hole FIRST, then ordering it IF you're able to dig a hole to the specifications. It's an expensive item to purchase and not particularly useful if you can't bury it in your yard. Also, you want to make sure your soil has decent drainage wherever you put the hole. Otherwise it's a bad spot for the product. I finally managed to dig this using a dig bar (picked one up at the hardware store) and a post digger. A dig bar is essentially a straight pointed metal rod and it's heavy. Some are lighter than others so I recommend finding the lightest option if you are concerned about your ability to use it. I'm pretty sure they're about 16-17 lbs. When you use the dig bar, you can thrust it down to break up soil and rocks, allowing you to use the post digger to then scoop up the dirt and rocks. This allows you to dig straight down so your shelf can properly support the Dooley. You need the smaller hole to be as straight down as possible and the shelf to be as perfect as possible or you'll have dirt and rocks slip back into the hole when you place the Dooley back in the ground and fill in around the sides of it. In terms of the actual product it's a cheap, thin plastic. It technically keeps the scent in (although I'm not sure how well because we haven't had it installed during the hottest part of summer yet), but the plastic is so thin that I am very concerned about the ability of it to support any weight. Seeing a portion of it is buried under the ground, I surrounded the area with rocks to mark off where it is. But I have two young kids and I am still concerned that if one of them stepped on it, it would break and collapse. If I push on the soil above the Dooley, I can see everything flex. I'm also concerned about if it will stand-up to the weight of heavy snow. I don't think it would collapse under my dogs weight but I haven't seen either dog try to walk over it (and the heaviest is 50 lbs). I also don't see the lid lasting long if my dog decided he was interested in chewing it. In the winter (assuming you live in a cold area), the poop won't break down so you can't use it for those months. I didn't see it breaking down particularly well in the Fall, but I really can't attest to that as I installed this later in season. The ground wasn't frozen (obviously) but cool weather doesn't really do much for speedy composting. My thought is that eventually, even if the poop breaks down and composts, the hole will fill up and you'll need to relocate the Dooley. Now... Once you've dug this hole once, you're probably not going to be keen on this, particularly as I can only imagine what a smelly venture this is. Overall, I just don't think this product is practical for most people. I wanted this to work so bad. But you could probably just dig your own holes, use the enzymes separately, and save yourself some time and money. I also think it is potentially unsafe if you have children that could be in the yard (any deep holes at all). There's another product available that hooks up direct to your septic. I haven't tried it, but it looks like it might be a better long term option. Not sure about child safety on it. Don't think it's for sale on Amazon (or it wasn't when I bought this) and it's probably more expensive than this by a lot.

I installed this myself which is saying something considering I’m a 50 year old woman. The digging was made much easier after I used a 36” auger drill attachment to loosen the soil. I dug the hole with a post hole digger, put some drainage rocks in the bottom of the hole and set the dooly flush with the ground. Only problem I had was due to the soil where I live, it’s mostly sand and the hole kept caving in so I sunk a 8 inch drain pipe with holes drilled through sides down into the hole to shore up the walls. Next I added the water and the tablets that came with the product and it’s been working ever since! I haven’t had any problems with odor and each time I add a fresh pile of dog poop the previous one isn’t there. The product seems sturdy enough to do its job. I’m debating on moving it to a new location closer to my garden hose because it needs water to work properly and I believe it will hold up well if I do move it Pretty cool product. I keep my garbage can in my garage and it doesn’t smell like dog crap since I started using this. I have one large golden retriever but she has friends over often who like to poop here so I use the product a lot. Hope this helps anyone who is on the fence deciding if they want to buy this, I’m glad I did!

Send to be fit for purpose. Worst bit? I have to dig a1.2 metre/4 foot deep hole to sit it in. I live on very rocky ground but it's achievable, I hope 😂

I owned one of these many years ago and just got this new one. Works great, not smelly like you would think. In fact you get worse smell picking up the dog poo than from the tank!

El producto esta muy bien pero lo hemos devuelto porque necessita demasiado agua, mas qhe pensamos, y acaba siendo menos ecologico que utilizar bolsas de vez en cuando. La segona pega es que ha sido un poco complicado devolverlo porque viene de America. Las pastillas extras que hemos comprado aun no sabemos si podrmos devolver pese del hecho que amazon han aprobado la solicitud. El sistem en si esta muy bien pero 19 litros de agua mas de una vez la semana (3 veces minimo?) es demasiado para nosotros
