Guitar Neck Notched Straight Edge Luthiers Tool with String Action Ruler Gauge for Gibson 24.75" and Fender 25.5" Electric Guitars

The tools are good quality. Useful for fret leveling and neck setup for guitar or bass. A correct setup is necessary to avoid fret buzz. While I'm not a trained Luther, I found several excellent videos on YouTube that describe the setup process in detail. These tools are useful for the task.

What I liked about this straight edge is that it is made of steel, not aluminum, so it has some weight to it, but not so much that it too heavy. It's also about 0.075" so it is thick enough to not be wobbly. When the edges are ground flat, it will stand on it's edge on a flat surface, but not on a fretboard. The edges are sharp, however, so as delivered one has to be very careful working with it on an expensive guitar. What I don't like about it is that one of the edges was not flat. As you can see if the photos, one edge is concave about 0.008" (measured). The other edge was dead straight/flat. The photos were taken on my table saw's flat surface, but I also have a certified granite flat that showed the same results. Plus, even if the table saw was not flat (it IS!), one side was flat and the other side concave when measured at the exact same spot on the TS, so the tool is not accurately machined. It's very difficult to get a fretboard dead straight, or to whatever bow you prefer, with a concave straight edge! The good news is that it took me all of 10 minutes with my granite flat and some 600 grit wet/dry paper to flatten the bad edge (magic markers confirmed the concave edge). I then eased the edges and corners just a bit so the tool would be not as sharp or dangerous near guitar surfaces. Even so, one still has to be careful with this tool around delicate guitar surfaces. Since flatening an edge is fairly easy if you have a dead flat surface to work on (and no, a desk or piece of glass is not a reliable flat surface), and have appropriate abrasive papers at hand, I am satisfied with the product. But, as sold, these cannot be relied upon as a proper measuring tool to set a fretboard. Be prepared to first measure the sample you receive and then flatten it properly before using this tool.

A few sharp edges on the ruler but otherwise very good. If you're worried about marking your fretboard a quick dressing of the edges (not the flat parts if you get my drift) with a fine file or some wet and dry sand paper might be in order but I didn't bother. Has two sets of notches to match different fret spacing. Used to check the neck relief on a US made 2015 Gibson SG and a 2020 MIM Telecaster.

Works like it should , I mostly use it on fender type guitars, but it also works with Gibson style. Some reviewers have complained about shart edges, the one I got is fine. For the price one can't go wrong imo.

I finally got a chance to leave a review for this. Someone from YouTube recommended this, then people posted that it was not straight. I had been using it not knowing it was not straight. Too late to send back now, but if you are reading this, it's sharper than a saw blade, and crooked heck, no value in any way. If you put a handle on it, it could make a mean machete.

The one I received was in good condition. Was straight and level. Kind of heavy with sharp edges. but I’ve used it. It did its job. A little faster than a standard eyeballing it :-) The slots lineup on my fenders and Epiphones. Should work on the rest of my guitars.

This one is ok, however the edges were vey sharp and I had to file it down to be safe and not scratch my guitar necks.

The unit is very sturdy came very quickly and the string hight rule is very handy to have. Very pleased with this purchase.

Guitar notches have sharp edges. Require filing down a bit. Apart from that it is OK.
