Review: FOR BACKPACKING - I don't know how people use those rinky dink aluminum and titanium so-called trowels. Are they digging cat holes in somebody's flowerbed or field? Because for me they're useless. The ground is always hard packed and there's softball or larger sized rocks and roots everywhere. This thing is heavy, but it's tough and has an actual handle, so you can jab it into the ground, pry rocks loose, force it back and forth... It definitely gets the job done. Other than that, it's really well made. Has a solid weld, nice ergonomic handle and the edges of the trowel have sort of a chisel grind. Not chisel sharp, but sharp enough to slice through a lot of the smaller roots you're likely to encounter in the middle of the woods.
Review: Reliable Digging Quality - Excellent ergonomics. This trowel is very comfortable in the hands. The steel is durable and takes an edge if you want to file it to make cutting through soil easier. The wood handle is smooth and not prone to splintering unlike some other cheap trowels. While wood can last a long time, it does help to keep it oiled to prevent future cracking. I've used it to pry rocks out of the ground too, sometimes up to 10 inches in diameter. This is a great reliable tool.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Which is better to buy, the small size or the standard size? Why?**
A: That really is a personal preference whether you’d like the smaller or standard size trowel. When it comes to digging or breaking up the ground, I’m am heavy handed and therefore don’t want to bend or break a smaller trowel. I just love my DeWit trowel and did plenary of research before purchasing this one. If you’re digging in a soft, well tilled garden bed, I’m sure the small trowel would be just fine as you wouldn’t need the ‘power’ of the larger trowel. I hope I was able to help you make your decision. I do highly recommend this DeWit.

**Q: Is this a full shank trowel with the shank running all the way through the handle? I'm tired of trowels breaking off at the handle.**
A: I'm not really sure, but I don't think so. You don't see the shank running along the handle like you do on knives.

**Q: Which is better to buy, the small size or the standard size? Why?**
A: I have both and the standard size is my go to choice. It is used to loosen soil around weeds and digging ias part of a sprinkler repair. I use the smaller in the garden around small weeds. If I were to buy one, it would be the standard size.

**Q: Will this tool rust?**
A: I left my trowel outside and it did rust a bit. I contacted the manufacturer and got this reply: "Oiling the tools will help prevent rust. It is recommended that you only use boiled linseed oil on the tools. Just apply it liberally all over the tool, let it sit for about 15 minutes and then wipe off the excess with a dry cloth. You do not have to oil the tools after every use, just every so often." That advice works, I have found.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Just buy it!
*by B***K on July 31, 2025*

It is the best tool in my garden tote! Heavy duty, sharp and so sturdy! I love it! I was a little bit hesitant to buy it after spending money every year or two on flimsy models that came loose or bent. It seemed like a splurge, but it wasn't! It is worth every penny and then some. Just get it, and you'll be set for many years to come. You can toss the cheap ones you bought before! This is a keeper!
